About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Principal Structural Engineer to support the design, analysis, testing, and validation of advanced aerospace systems. This role is ideal for a highly skilled engineer with expertise in structural analysis, finite element modeling, dynamics, and environmental testing. You will work on complex structures, mechanisms, payloads, instruments, and support equipment in a collaborative engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform structural analysis of aerospace hardware, including spacecraft structures, payloads, instruments, optics, mechanisms, and ground support equipment.
  • Conduct stress, strength, and dynamic analyses using both closed-form methods and finite element analysis (FEA).
  • Develop structural load cases and environmental requirements for systems and components.
  • Support structural and environmental testing, including:
    • Static testing
    • Modal testing
    • Acoustic testing
    • Shock testing
    • Vibration testing
  • Evaluate test and analysis results and prepare detailed technical reports.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure structural integrity and mission success.
  • Manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Maintain effective communication and strong working relationships across technical teams and stakeholders.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum 6+ years of relevant structural analysis experience.
  • Advanced degrees may be considered in lieu of some years of experience.
  • Strong experience with Nastran for:
    • Static Analysis
    • Modal Analysis
    • Buckling Analysis
    • Frequency Response Analysis
  • Solid understanding of structural dynamics, stress analysis, and aerospace structural design.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and manage competing priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

Work Environment
  • Primarily onsite in Boulder, Colorado.
  • Work may be performed in office, laboratory, manufacturing, cleanroom, or outdoor testing environments.
  • Occasional use of personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required.
  • Limited travel between facilities and testing locations may be necessary.
