Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Product Sustainability Engineer to join the Starline team. This role plays a central part in advancing the sustainability performance of Starline's product portfolio by integrating environmental considerations throughout product development and lifecycle management.

In this position, you will collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, packaging, and sustainability teams to translate sustainability goals into practical product insights. The role supports transparency initiatives, eco-design, and decarbonization efforts, helping ensure Starline products meet evolving customer expectations while reducing environmental impact.
What You Will Do
  • Support product-level sustainability and transparency initiatives, including Product Environmental Profiles (PEPs), eco-design methodologies, and product-specific decarbonization efforts.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve environmental performance models to assess embodied and use-phase impacts.
  • Coordinate sustainability data collection, validation, and reporting across teams to support internal decision-making and external disclosures such as LEED, WELL, and customer sustainability requests.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to identify and implement design-related opportunities that reduce waste, improve material efficiency, and lower environmental impacts.
  • Support sustainability initiatives related to packaging, including single-use plastic reduction and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) requirements.
  • Identify and pilot new tools, methods, and data approaches that enhance product sustainability performance.
  • Partner with external consultants and vendors that support life-cycle assessment, sustainability modeling, and data validation.
  • Participate in the ECN/ECR process to ensure sustainability considerations are integrated into product and material changes.
  • Contribute to the LNCA Product Sustainability & Compliance Committee by sharing insights, findings, and emerging requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, sustainability, materials science, or a related technical field. Equivalent experience, certifications, or a combination of education and hands-on experience will also be considered.
  • Approximately 2-4 years of relevant experience in sustainability, product development, engineering support, or a related technical area.
  • Applied understanding of sustainability frameworks and standards (such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol or science-based climate targets) with the ability to apply them at a product or material level.
  • Ability to communicate technical sustainability concepts clearly and work effectively in cross-functional teams.
Desired Skills and Experience (Nice to Have)
  • Experience with sustainability frameworks and certifications such as ISO 14025, EN 15804, LEED, or WELL.
  • Experience using life-cycle assessment (LCA) tools (e.g., EIME, SimaPro, GaBi) or similar environmental modeling software.
  • Familiarity with PLM, ERP, or sustainability data management platforms.
  • Understanding of engineering documentation, bills of materials (BOMs), and change management processes.
  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and data visualization or reporting tools.
  • General understanding of engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes, with support available to deepen sustainability-specific expertise.

If you do not meet every qualification listed, we encourage you to apply. We value curiosity, analytical thinking, collaboration, and a commitment to continuous learning.
Work Environment and Additional Information
  • This role is primarily office-based, with periodic time spent in manufacturing or lab environments as needed.
