Backend Platform Architect

Backend Platform Architect (Contract High-Scale SaaS Platform) for a remote opportunity (US-based preferred). This is a high-impact role focused on modernizing and scaling revenue-generating internal tools into a production-grade SaaS platform for the Financial Publishing industry.

Engagement: Contract (up to 6 months)

Conversion: Potential full-time hire after initial 2 months

Overview

The team is transforming existing PHP-based internal systems into scalable, containerized microservices capable of handling millions of requests and database transactions. This is not greenfield development it is high-velocity execution on real systems with real traffic and aggressive deadlines.

Immediate Priorities (First 60 Days)

• Convert internal tools into public-facing SaaS products
• Productize high-throughput tokenization/redirect services
• Build an external SMS platform
• Refactor legacy PHP + cron workflows into:
• Node.js services
• Dockerized workloads
• AWS ECS with autoscaling
• Implement multi-tenant architecture with client isolation and separate databases
• Improve reliability, performance, and system clarity

Required Skills

• Senior-level experience building production systems at scale
• Strong backend engineering expertise
• Experience refactoring legacy PHP systems
• Hands-on Node.js, Docker, Microservices
• Strong SQL performance tuning knowledge
• Experience designing systems that handle traffic spikes and high write volumes

• AWS ECS experience
