Summary

Job Description

This role sits within a modern software engineering organization and focuses on advancing DevOps and DevSecOps capabilities across the enterprise. The DevOps Engineer will play a hands-on leadership role in modernizing CI/CD platforms, embedding security and governance into automated pipelines, and enabling engineering teams with scalable, secure, and compliant delivery patterns.
This position is not a principal-level role, but it does require strong senior-level experience and the ability to influence, mentor, and guide teams that may not have deep DevOps or software engineering backgrounds. The work is highly impactful, driving long-term improvements in cloud governance, security posture, and developer productivity within a large, stable enterprise environment.

Key Project Initiatives & Business Impact

  • DevSecOps by Default: Embed security directly into CI/CD pipelines through automated SAST, DAST, dependency scanning, SBOM generation, and quality gates that block vulnerabilities before production.
  • Cloud Governance & Golden Paths: Help define and implement governance-as-code standards that support secure, compliant "golden paths" for application teams using Azure.
  • Pipeline Modernization: Assess existing Azure DevOps pipelines, identify gaps against security and compliance standards, and deliver a prioritized remediation roadmap.
  • Security Visibility & Compliance Automation: Replace manual compliance processes with real-time, audit-ready reporting generated directly from pipelines.
  • Developer Enablement: Surface real-time security and risk insights into Internal Developer Portal (IDP) dashboards, empowering teams to remediate issues quickly while giving leadership a global view of risk.
  • Platform Assessment & Improvement: Support ongoing evaluation and modernization of DevOps platforms, moving away from legacy tooling toward code-based, version-controlled YAML pipelines.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver reusable, version-controlled YAML pipeline templates in Azure DevOps
  • Integrate security tooling (e.g., SAST, DAST, SBOM, package scanning such as Phylum/Veracode) into CI/CD workflows
  • Perform gap analysis of existing pipelines against security and governance standards
  • Automate compliance evidence collection and monitoring of security regressions
  • Collaborate with architecture, cloud, and security teams to align DevOps practices with enterprise standards
  • Support and mentor engineering teams adopting modern DevOps and DevSecOps practices
  • Contribute to cloud governance initiatives, including secret management and policy enforcement

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Senior-level DevOps experience with a strong foundation in software engineering principles
  • Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps, including CI/CD pipelines and YAML-based workflows
  • Strong knowledge of DevSecOps principles, CI/CD best practices, and cloud governance
  • Experience working in Azure cloud environments
  • Familiarity with GitHub and/or GitLab (Microsoft-centric environments preferred)
  • Scripting experience, preferably PowerShell (Windows-based environments)
  • Understanding of agile development methodologies and working with agile teams
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex pipeline, infrastructure, and deployment issues

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in application development (.NET, C#, or VB preferred)
  • Experience modernizing legacy pipelines and deployment processes
  • Familiarity with observability or monitoring tools (e.g., Splunk) at a high level
  • Experience in regulated industries such as insurance or financial services (nice to have, not required)

Why This Role

This is an opportunity to make a meaningful, long-term impact within a highly stable organization that actively invests in technology modernization. The DevOps Engineer will help shape the future of secure software delivery, influence enterprise-wide standards, and enable teams to build and deploy software faster, safer, and with greater confidence.
