Contingent Software Engineer (Data Engineering Focus)

Location: Charlotte, NC

About the Role

As a Contingent Software Engineer, you will consult on complex, high-impact initiatives that support large-scale software engineering and data engineering efforts. You will contribute to the design, analysis, and resolution of multi-faceted engineering challenges, partnering closely with stakeholders to deliver scalable, compliant, and high-quality solutions.
Responsibilities
  • Consult on complex software engineering initiatives with broad organizational impact and large-scale planning requirements.
  • Analyze and solve complex, multi-dimensional engineering challenges requiring evaluation of technical, business, and intangible factors, including novel or unprecedented scenarios.
  • Contribute to resolving sophisticated technical issues by applying a strong understanding of engineering practices, policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
  • Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines and data integration solutions.
  • Optimize system performance through tuning, automation, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate strategically with client and cross-functional teams to define requirements, align on solutions, and ensure successful delivery.
  • Participate in Agile development processes, including backlog grooming, sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience demonstrated through work, consulting, training, military service, or education.
  • Experience in Data Engineering.
  • Proficiency in SQL and PL/SQL, with strong database development skills.
  • Experience with Python or Java.
  • Experience designing and maintaining ETL processes and data pipeline frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience working with Parquet files in Amazon S3.
  • Familiarity with relational and NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform), or Microsoft Azure.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with big data technologies such as Apache Spark, Hadoop, or Kafka.
  • Hands-on experience with performance tuning and automation, including reporting automation.
  • Experience working in Agile development environments.
  • Exposure to or experience with Artificial Intelligence or machine learning-based solutions.
  • Strong consulting and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
