Position: Linux/Windows Systems Administrator
Location: Oxon Hill, MD (National Harbor)
Duration: 3-6 Month Contract to Hire

- Master's & 10+ YOE OR Bachelor's & 14+ YOE within Systems Administration

Linux/Windows System Administrator - DHS ProgramOverviewThe Linux/Windows System Administrator supports DHS mission systems by managing, maintaining, and securing enterprise IT infrastructure across Windows and Linux environments, ensuring compliance with NIST RMF, FISMA, and DHS security standards while maintaining system availability, performance, and reliability.
Key Responsibilities- Install, configure, and maintain Windows and Linux servers, operating systems, and applications
- Monitor system performance, availability, and resource utilization; troubleshoot and resolve issues to minimize downtime
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls (e.g., Active Directory, Linux user management)
- Implement system patching, updates, and security hardening to ensure compliance with federal standards
- Perform backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning to protect mission-critical data
- Administer virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and support hybrid infrastructure environments
- Monitor logs, detect security risks, and respond to incidents or vulnerabilities
- Support network and infrastructure operations (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, storage systems)
- Develop and maintain automation scripts (e.g., Bash, PowerShell, Python) for system administration tasks
- Maintain system documentation, configurations, and standard operating procedures
- Support compliance activities, audits, and RMF requirements to maintain ATO
Qualifications- Strong experience with Windows Server and Linux distributions (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu)
- Experience with Active Directory, virtualization, and enterprise infrastructure management
- Knowledge of NIST RMF, FISMA, and federal cybersecurity compliance requirements
- Experience with system monitoring, patching, and vulnerability remediation
- Proficiency in scripting/automation (Bash, PowerShell, Python)
- Clearance preferred (Secret+ typical; TS/SCI preferred)
- Security+, RHCSA/RHCE, or Microsoft certifications preferred
