Role Overview
We are seeking a Field Engineer to support customer data centers by resolving hardware and infrastructure issues. This role requires hands-on experience with enterprise-level systems and a strong understanding of data center operations. This position involves a comprehensive 16-week training program to prepare the candidate for independent fieldwork.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues across IT infrastructure, including multi-vendor enterprise systems, servers, storage, and networking.
- Perform rack and stack, hardware installations, disk drive and memory replacements, and hot swaps.
- Utilize software tools for daily operations and troubleshooting within a data center environment.
- Provide client-facing support with professionalism and technical expertise.
- Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve issues using systems analysis techniques and procedures.
- Perform high volume/low impact tasks efficiently and with minimal guidance.
- Document daily activities and maintain communication with management and peers.
Training Program
A mandatory 16-week training period is required. This includes 8 weeks of virtual instruction and 8 weeks of on-the-job training with team leads. Part of this training will be conducted in person in Alpharetta, GA, and Colorado Springs, CO, with travel provided. After completion, the resource will be added to an on-call rotation, which occurs for a full week every 3-7 weeks as needed.
Required Qualifications
Experience: An Associate's Degree in computer science or a related field with 3-5 years of technical experience, or 5-7 years of relevant professional experience without a degree. This includes 2-3 years of hands-on break/fix experience with servers, cabling, workstations, and routers/switches.
Technical Skills: Must be proficient in replacing hardware components such as disk drives and memory DIMMs. A basic understanding of storage theory, server layout, and network concepts is required. Familiarity with various computer applications and software tools is necessary. Ability to operate manual and power hand tools.
This role requires travel up to 50-75% within a 300-mile radius of home, with mileage reimbursement. Must be able to pass a drug screening, criminal background check, and credit check. Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. Willingness to work overtime and weekends with advance notice is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working in data center environments, including rack-and-stack work.
- CompTIA A+ certification is preferred.
- Experience with pallet jacks and data center server lifting tools.
Compensation & Benefits
The pay rate for this position is between $22.00 and $25.00 per hour.
