We are seeking a highly skilled Systems Engineer with deep expertise in AWS and VMware to support and evolve Sunrun s core infrastructure platforms. In this role, you will partner closely with Systems Operations, Security, DevOps, and Network Engineering to ensure our environments are reliable, cost-efficient, and built for long-term growth.
Responsibilities
Architect, implement, and support AWS infrastructure services, ensuring scalability, performance, and operational excellence.
Administer and optimize VMware vCenter environments including ESXi hosts, clusters, storage platforms, and virtual networking.
Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues across compute, storage, and network layers.
Design, maintain, and enhance AWS and VMware networking configurations (VPCs, subnets, routing, VLAN/VDS, security groups, hybrid connectivity).
Work directly with Network Engineering to align cloud and on-prem connectivity, routing, access control, and data center network strategy.
Support both Microsoft Windows and Linux server environments with a strong understanding of OS configuration, lifecycle management, and performance tuning.
Manage and maintain Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and related identity/infrastructure services.
Develop and maintain documentation, runbooks, diagrams, and automation to improve operational maturity and reduce manual work.
Contribute to broader systems administration and engineering initiatives that support Sunrun s technology strategy.
Required Qualifications
5 8+ years supporting production AWS and VMware vCenter environments.
AWS Solutions Architect certification (Associate or higher).
VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or equivalent certification.
Strong understanding of AWS services, cloud networking, IAM, and architectural best practices.
Expertise in VMware networking, ESXi management, HA/DRS configuration, storage integrations, and performance optimization.
Hands-on experience administering Windows Server and Linux systems.
Proficiency with Active Directory, DNS, and core network/infrastructure services.
Ability to script or automate using PowerShell, Bash, Python, or similar tools.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with teammates.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Infoblox for DNS/DHCP/IPAM management and integrations.
Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
Familiarity with Okta, hybrid identity, SSO/IAM architecture, and device-trust models.
Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Datadog, CloudWatch, VMware Aria, Elastic).
Broader systems administration and engineering experience that supports cross-functional operations (patching, configuration management, CI/CD, MDM, containerization). What We Value
