Cloud Engineer

Role Overview

We are seeking a Cloud / Platform Engineer to join our IT Operations team as a backfill for an existing role. This position will play a critical role in delivering high-impact, business-driven cloud initiatives. The engineer will focus on Azure infrastructure design, automation, and platform development, supporting both internal platform capabilities and external application modernization efforts.
This role is ideal for someone with a strong automation mindset who enjoys building scalable, secure, and reusable cloud solutions.

Key Projects

• Azure AI Search integration and modernization of on-prem applications for off-network availability
• Platform-as-a-Product development, enabling automated platform services for application delivery teams
• Supporting a maturing Azure cloud environment with secure, scalable, and automated infrastructure solutions

Responsibilities

Cloud Infrastructure & Automation

• Design, implement, and manage Azure infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, primarily Terraform
• Develop reusable and standardized Azure infrastructure modules aligned with business needs
• Automate monitoring, scaling, and lifecycle management of cloud resources
• Build, maintain, and optimize Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines
• Support code promotion and release processes across environments

Collaboration & Support

• Partner with cross-functional teams to translate technical and business requirements into automated cloud solutions
• Provide guidance on Azure best practices, automation strategies, and cloud architecture
• Offer training and operational support to internal teams as required
• Contribute positively to a collaborative, agile team environment

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience designing, implementing, and managing Azure cloud infrastructure
• 2+ years of hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code, specifically Terraform
• Strong scripting and automation skills using PowerShell
• Experience with CI/CD tools and release management workflows
• Solid understanding of cloud security best practices
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Technical Knowledge & Skills

• Cloud & DevOps: Azure, Azure DevOps, GitHub
• Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, Azure Resource Manager (ARM), Azure Bicep, Ansible
• Automation: CI/CD pipelines, code promotion, and release workflows
• Core Skills: DevOps, Automation, Infrastructure, Cloud (Azure)

Nice to Have

• Experience supporting application modernization initiatives
• Exposure to Platform Engineering or Platform-as-a-Product concepts

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Milwaukee, WI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $75.00/hr.
