Senior COBOL/Linux Developer

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior COBOL/Linux Developer to support enterprise-level systems involving legacy application development, EDI processing, and database integration. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in COBOL programming, Linux shell scripting, SQL, and EDI business processes. Experience with IBM Sterling Integrator is a plus.

This role requires hands-on development, production support, and collaboration with cross-functional teams in an Agile environment.

Key Responsibilities

COBOL Development

• Write COBOL programs from scratch based on business requirements
• Modify and enhance existing legacy COBOL applications
• Process and manage both variable-length and fixed-length files
• Integrate COBOL programs with Oracle databases
• Perform debugging, testing, and performance tuning

Linux Environment

• Write, modify, and maintain Shell scripts
• Work efficiently using VI editor commands
• Monitor batch jobs and troubleshoot job failures

SQL & Database

• Write and optimize SQL queries
• Read and analyze complex queries
• Support Oracle database integrations

EDI & Business Process Support

• Work with EDI transaction files
• Understand core business documents:
• Purchase Orders (PO)
• PO Acknowledgements
• Advance Ship Notices (ASN)
• Invoices
• Support EDI processing workflows
• Experience with IBM Sterling Integrator is preferred

Tools & Process

• Use Jira for task tracking and Agile workflow
• Create documentation using Excel and Word
• Participate in sprint planning, reviews, and production support

Required Skills

• Strong hands-on experience in COBOL development
• Experience processing fixed and variable length files
• Oracle DB integration using COBOL
• Linux/Shell scripting experience
• Strong SQL query writing and analysis skills
• Knowledge of EDI concepts and business transactions
• Familiarity with Jira
