Location: Bellevue, Washington (Remote)
Employment Type: Contract
Role Overview
This is a senior backend engineering role focused on evolving a core platform that directly impacts creator and developer experience at scale. This service will be consumed by multiple high-profile products.
Key Responsibilities

- Design and build backend services representing organizations, teams, memberships, roles, and permissions.
- Implement durable, well-designed REST APIs used by multiple internal products.
- Migrate and modernize a legacy Java service toward Go or a modern Java stack.
- Design data models, schemas, and authorization logic with long-term scalability in mind.
- Support multiple downstream clients while maintaining clean interfaces and backward compatibility.
- Operate in an environment with evolving requirements and iterative design.
- Write production-ready code with strong test coverage and own quality end-to-end.
Required Qualifications
Experience: 8+ years as a Senior, Staff, or Principal-level backend engineer.
Technical Skills: Strong background in backend application architecture, data modeling, and domain design. Proven experience designing RESTful APIs over HTTP is necessary. Proficiency in Go is preferred, with experience in Java for migrating legacy systems. Candidates must have experience with AWS, Kubernetes, and working across application, database, and infrastructure layers. Comfort deploying and operating backend services in production is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with asynchronous or messaging systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS, etc.).
- A strong testing discipline or Test-Driven Development (TDD) mindset.
- Experience designing platforms consumed by many internal teams.
AI-Assisted Development
