This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies through the DHA for Advanced Degree Candidates at Science and Technology Reinvention Labs. Duties

Help

  • You will serve as an Engineer in the Air Systems Group, Propulsion and Power Eng Department, Modeling and Analysis Division, Structural Integrity BR of NAVAIRWARCENAC DIV.
  • You will deliver optimized technical solutions that are balanced to achieve required technical performance within cost, schedule and technology constraints.
  • You will function as a project lead, program manager, team lead or member of an integrated team/group providing technical guidance to a technical workforce and meeting customer requirements for products and/or services.
  • You will act as a Project/Program Engineer in the application of advanced theories, concepts, principles and processes in research and engineering, test and evaluation and logistics functions
  • You will develop and execute program plans to support critical component continued airworthiness including component analysis and testing.
  • You will identify and solve a wide variety of complex problems with many competing objectives, variables and constraints.
  • You will perform evaluations of industry technical assessments used to establish propulsion system fracture-safety critical parts field limits.
  • You will perform analysis of aircraft flight data to establish mission severity, validate life-prediction algorithms, and implement mission data analytics to trend and monitor operational usage.
  • You will perform time-sensitive risk and reliability assessments of propulsion system components to support aircraft level assessments balancing safety, availability, and affordability.
  • You will develop, communicate and present technical findings / results to program customers in a concise manner.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the DP-03 (GS-9/11) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

1. Knowledge of and experience in turbine engine engineering, manufacturing and associated system failure modes (ie. fatigue, corrosion, creep, oxidation); 2. Knowledge of and experience performing with safety, reliability, and risk assessment of turbine engine component failure modes; 3. Knowledge of and experience in turbomachinery structural analysis, testing, and component lifting methods to evaluate operating conditions w/ emphasis on utilization of data analytics; 4. Experience in Engineering project management and leading teams; 5. Ability to research, organize, and analyze technical data, new systems concepts, and complex engineering proposals for aircraft turbine engine systems; and 6. Ability to communicate orally and in writing and present conclusions to the program manager and senior leadership.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

Degree: Professional Engineering.

To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
