We are seeking an experienced, hands-on SharePoint Technical Architect to lead the architecture, development, modernization, migration, and AI enablement of enterprise SharePoint solutions.
The ideal candidate has deep expertise in SharePoint development, SPFx, large-scale SharePoint On-Premises to SharePoint Online migrations, Azure cloud services, Microsoft Power Platform, and AI-powered enterprise solutions. The role requires the ability to architect modern SharePoint environments, handle high-volume document library migrations, and integrate SharePoint with Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Studio, and Azure AI technologies.
The Technical Architect owns solution design, migration strategy, and technical standards, and approves designs before build. The role guides SharePoint Senior Developers, who carry out the build, scripting, and migration work, and stays hands-on for proofs of concept, complex components, and code reviews.
1 SharePoint Architecture and Development
• Design scalable, secure, and maintainable SharePoint Online solutions, including hub sites, communication sites, team sites, and enterprise document management systems.
• Lead SharePoint development and modernization using SPFx, React, TypeScript, JavaScript, and modern development frameworks.
• Architect custom SPFx web parts, extensions, and reusable components.
• Establish governance, information architecture, security, metadata management, and development standards.
• Design integrations using SharePoint REST APIs, Microsoft Graph APIs, and PnP libraries; provide hands-on technical guidance and code reviews.
• Extend SharePoint solutions into Microsoft Teams and Viva Connections, including SPFx Adaptive Card Extensions and Teams-hosted web parts.
• Design enterprise search, including the search schema, managed properties, result sources, and PnP Modern Search.
• Define site provisioning and lifecycle governance: site requests, templates, ownership, inactive-site handling, retention, and archiving (including Microsoft 365 Archive).
• Ensure custom interfaces meet accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA / Section 508).
• Evaluate SharePoint Embedded and other platform options for document-centric custom applications.
2 SharePoint Migration and Modernization
• Lead enterprise migrations from SharePoint On-Premises to SharePoint Online; define strategy, architecture, migration waves, validation, and cutover plans.
• Demonstrate experience migrating large libraries with hundreds of thousands or millions of documents, including complex metadata, content types, permissions, versions, and folder structures.
• Use ShareGate, SharePoint Migration Tool (SPMT), Migration Manager, and PnP PowerShell as appropriate.
• Address service limits, API throttling, high-volume library performance, complex permissions, and unsupported customizations.
• Design automated migration, batching, incremental synchronization, reconciliation, and post-migration validation; lead legacy solution remediation.
• Plan migrations from SharePoint Server 2013, 2016, 2019, and Subscription Edition, as well as file shares, OneDrive, Box, Google Drive, and other Microsoft 365 tenants (for example, after a merger or reorganization).
• Assess legacy customizations (farm solutions, full-trust code, C#/.NET, CSOM, SharePoint Designer workflows, and InfoPath forms) and define whether each is retired, replaced, or rebuilt with SPFx, Power Platform, or Azure.
3 AI Architecture and Integration | Preferred
• Architect AI-enabled solutions within Microsoft 365 and SharePoint using Microsoft Copilot, Copilot Studio, Azure OpenAI, or related Azure AI services.
• Design enterprise conversational agents and AI applications grounded in SharePoint content and other approved knowledge sources.
• Integrate SharePoint Online, Copilot Studio, Microsoft Graph, Azure AI services, and Power Platform.
• Apply RAG, semantic search, enterprise knowledge retrieval, and reliable grounding concepts to solution design.
• Design secure AI architectures that respect SharePoint permissions, identity, content governance, and enterprise data protection.
• Evaluate SharePoint content readiness for AI, including document structure, metadata, access controls, information architecture, and search.
• Lead Copilot readiness: find and fix overshared content, apply sensitivity labels and DLP policies, and use SharePoint Advanced Management and Restricted Content Discovery to control what Copilot can surface.
• Design SharePoint agents and Microsoft 365 Copilot connectors that bring external content into Copilot and Microsoft Search.
• Evaluate SharePoint Premium (formerly Syntex) and Azure AI Document Intelligence for document processing, classification, and metadata extraction.
• Identify AI opportunities for document management, enterprise search, knowledge discovery, workflow automation, and document classification.
• Define AI technical dependencies, evaluation practices, performance and response-quality monitoring, and governance considerations.
4 Azure Cloud Architecture
• Design SharePoint integrations using Azure Functions, Logic Apps, App Service, Azure Storage, Key Vault, and Microsoft Entra ID.
• Define secure authentication patterns and API integrations, including cloud-based document processing and automation.
• Establish Azure DevOps, Git, CI/CD, and deployment standards.
• Apply least-privilege access for Entra ID app registrations (for example, Sites.Selected), certificate-based authentication, and managed identities.
• Define monitoring with Application Insights and Azure Monitor, plus backup, recovery, and business-continuity approaches for SharePoint and integrated services.
• Design for large or distributed tenants, including multi-geo, data residency, and SharePoint service limits.
5 Power Platform Architecture and Development
• Architect and develop solutions using Power Apps and Power Automate, including approvals, complex workflows, and business automation.
• Integrate SharePoint with Dataverse, Azure services, and external applications.
• Modernize legacy SharePoint workflows and define Power Platform security, governance, and application lifecycle management practices.
• Define the Power Platform environment strategy, connector DLP policies, Managed Environments, and deployment pipelines.
6 Technical Leadership
• Lead technical design discussions and architecture reviews; translate business needs into scalable technical solutions.
• Produce solution architecture documents, migration plans, integration diagrams, specifications, and implementation estimates.
• Manage technical risks and dependencies, mentor developers, support production releases, and troubleshoot complex issues.
• Estimate licensing and running costs (Microsoft 365, Copilot, Azure consumption, migration tools) and compare tools and vendors.
• Plan user adoption and change management with business owners; present architecture options and recommendations to executives.
• Work with security, compliance, and records-management teams to ensure solutions meet policy requirements.
Mandatory Technical Requirements
• 9+ years of SharePoint experience, including 3+ years in architecture or technical leadership.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Strong hands-on SharePoint Online development, advanced SPFx development using React and TypeScript, and strong knowledge of SharePoint REST APIs, Microsoft Graph APIs, and PnP libraries.
• Proven delivery of SharePoint On-Premises to SharePoint Online migrations involving large document libraries with complex metadata, content types, permissions, and version histories.
• Proficiency with ShareGate, SPMT, or equivalent migration tools; PowerShell and PnP PowerShell.
• Hands-on Power Apps and Power Automate development; strong Azure integration and cloud architecture knowledge.
• Working knowledge of C#/.NET, CSOM, and server-side SharePoint development, enough to assess and remediate legacy customizations.
• Experience with Azure DevOps, Git, and CI/CD; strong technical communication and problem-solving skills.
• Experience architecting enterprise AI solutions with Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Studio, Azure OpenAI, or related Azure AI services.
