Description: Maintains operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination of infrastructure and cloud responsibilities. Develops and designs core operating system builds. Responsible for coding, virtualization, and automation of systems. Sets up administrator and service accounts, maintains an active directory of users and system documentation, tunes system performance, installs system-wide software, and allocates mass storage space. Assesses and resolves user access problems related to security controls to minimize business impact and risk exposure. Identifies and evaluates vendor products and establishes vendor monitoring and tracking processes. Performs capacity planning and monitors/tunes systems. Recommends appropriate platforms for purchase, coordinates installation, and provides backup recovery. Serves as a point of escalation for major incidents that are unresolved at the helpdesk level. Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources. May draft general IT communications to end-users including notifications of outages/downtimes. May serve as the primary liaison for mergers, acquisitions, and divesture activities as it relates to user access, network, security, and support.
Background/Need: The Engineering team is seeking a talented and motivated IT Systems Administrator to join the IT and team. In this role, you will support the administration, development, and optimization of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) environments, CAD/PDM systems, engineering systems and supporting infrastructure in the disciplines of building, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance. The ideal candidate has experience with Aras Innovator, Windows Server, virtualization, DevOps tools, networking, and IT security practices, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced research environment. This position plays a key role in maintaining and enhancing our mission-critical engineering systems to ensure availability, security, and performance for the division s research and engineering staff.
PLM Systems Administration & Development Support:
- Administer, build, deploy, maintain, and upgrade multiple Aras Innovator environments (Production, QA, UAT, Development).
- Perform environment refreshes, which may include, biweekly after-hours/weekend upgrades, apply patches, and address emergency maintenance needs.
- Troubleshoot integration issues (e.g., Authoring system connectors), performance problems, and licensing issues.
- Collaborate with DEC team, Aras Support, partners, and developers for automated testing, data migration, and deployments.
Infrastructure & DevOps:
- Provision, configure, and optimize Windows Server VMs in coordination with the Enterprise IT Team.
- Monitor and resolve performance, patching, and security agent issues (BigFix, SentinelOne, other tools) with the Enterprise IT Team.
- Maintain software license servers, record configurations, and ensure reproducibility of environments.
CAD/PDM and Engineering System Support:
- Support SolidWorks/PDM add-ins, license renewals, and upgrade planning.
- Troubleshoot ODBC driver issues, certificate expirations, and policy-related interruptions.
Security & Compliance:
- Perform vulnerability remediation in collaboration with Cybersecurity teams.
- Manage certificate lifecycles, alternative control submissions, and system component configuration management and EOL tracking.
- Install and evaluate security agents and tools across systems, diagnosing complex issues as needed.
Required Skills:
- Strong skills in Windows Server and VMware/ESXi provisioning, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of SQL Server performance factors and configuration.
- Familiarity with DevOps pipelines (Azure DevOps, Jenkins) and scripting (PowerShell, C#).
- Understanding of IT security practices, including vulnerability management and privileged access management (PAM).
- Strong documentation, communication, and cross-team collaboration skills.
- Ability to develop scripts and automation for environment provisioning, patching, and deployment.
Desired Skills:
- Proven experience administering and upgrading Aras Innovator or other PLM or similar engineering-based software
- Experience supporting CAD/PDM tools such as SolidWorks and associated integrations.
- Knowledge of software licensing technologies (FlexLM) and procurement considerations.
- Experience troubleshooting and rehosting systems in protected/closed environments with security constraints.
- Exposure to XML/JSON configuration file editing and basic application development for troubleshooting tools.
- Preferred certifications: Security+, Windows Server Administration, Linux+, Network+.
Education / Training:
- BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field; or 5+ years of directly related experience.
Others:
- Clearance: Interim is sufficient to start.
- Work Location: Position will be onsite 2 days/wk with the remaining days remote. Candidate should be prepared to be onsite 4-5 days/wk for the first few months while they are getting up and running. Once they are trained, the hybrid schedule will start.
- Interview Process: initial prescreen via zoom, a second round zoom technical interview, and a final zoom interview with Group Leadership.
- There could be some periodic after hours/off hours work for data migration activities or system upgrades.
- Any experience supporting a PLM tool is fine for this. It does not need to be Aras specifically.
