Overview
Our Fortune 500 Client is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead backend focused engineering teams responsible for building and supporting large scale, customer facing digital applications. This is a hands on leadership role combining deep technical expertise with people leadership, delivery ownership, and long term technical strategy.
You will partner closely with Product and Delivery leaders to drive execution across services, integrations, and platforms, while ensuring high quality, scalable solutions that support web and mobile experiences.
What You'll Do
- Lead and manage one or more software engineering teams of 5 to 15 engineers, including onshore and offshore resources
- Provide hands on technical leadership across backend services, APIs, and system integrations
- Establish engineering best practices across architecture, development, testing, deployment, and support
- Own team delivery, capacity planning, hiring, performance management, and career development
- Drive long term technical strategy while balancing near term delivery needs
- Partner with product, delivery, and business stakeholders to align engineering execution with roadmap priorities
- Participate in Agile ceremonies and serve as the engineering point of accountability for your product area
- Identify risks, dependencies, and blockers and proactively drive resolution
- Collaborate with platform, operations, and vendor partners to ensure system stability and performance
Technical Environment
- Java, Spring Boot, microservices, and API development
- Docker, Kubernetes, and Kustomize
- GitOps workflows using Argo CD
- Event driven architectures with Kafka
- Couchbase or other NoSQL databases
- Distributed systems and reactive programming concepts
- Backend integration supporting web and mobile client applications
What We're Looking For
- 7+ years of software engineering experience
- 3+ years of experience leading and managing engineering teams
- Strong hands on backend engineering background
- Experience building and supporting large scale, customer facing applications
- Proven ability to manage offshore teams and third party vendors
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage technical and non technical stakeholders
- High ownership mindset with end to end delivery accountability
- Ability to work onsite four days per week in Miami, FL
Nice to Have
- Experience with both web and mobile application development
- GraphQL and API gateway experience such as Apigee
- Experience with reactive frameworks such as WebFlux or Project Reactor
