Location: Houston, Texas (Partial Remote)
Employment Type: 30 Month Contract
Role Overview
We are seeking a Field Construction Engineer responsible for the end-to-end installation, testing, documentation, and maintenance of a 5G network infrastructure within Multi-Dwelling Units (MDUs) and Multi-Tenant Units (MTUs). This role ensures the deployment of network equipment and distribution networks using existing building infrastructure. The technician will uphold professional, safety, regulatory, and technical standards while working with property owners and internal engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive site walks with building owners or decision makers to assess feasibility and plan installations.
- Install Remote Terminal (RT) radios on rooftops or exterior walls, ensuring compliance with all regulations.
- Mount and configure Distribution Point Units (DPUs) indoors or outdoors, managing capacity and ensuring proper power and grounding.
- Install exterior-rated Cat6A Ethernet and build coax distribution networks to connect all living units.
- Perform 10G data link testing, coax continuity and PHY rate testing, and 1 Gbps throughput testing.
- Troubleshoot failures and escalate unresolved issues to the construction engineering team.
- Capture required photos of all installed equipment and prepare complete closeout packages for upload.
- Maintain professional communication with building owners, keeping them informed of progress and any scope changes.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in telecom, structured cabling, RF systems, or MDU installations.
- Ability to read building layouts, identify coax infrastructure, and design distribution networks.
- Understanding of grounding, AC power requirements, and low-voltage installation standards.
- Comfortable working on rooftops, ladders, and exterior building surfaces in varying weather conditions.
- Proficiency with tools such as coax/Ethernet testers, crimpers, power drills, and labeling equipment.
- Ability to work independently and escalate issues appropriately.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to climb ladders and access rooftops safely.
- Work may require extended standing, bending, and routing cable in tight spaces.
