Director of IT - Infrastructure and Cyber

Vaco is partnering with a growing, multi-location construction and distribution organization to hire a Director of Infrastructure & Cybersecurity Operations. This role serves as the primary internal owner of IT operations and security, responsible for stabilizing current systems while building the foundation for scale as the business prepares for significant growth and acquisition activity.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you will manage a small internal team, own the MSP relationship, and establish structure across infrastructure, cybersecurity, and vendor governance. The environment is evolving and requires a builder mindset. Someone who can bring order, drive accountability, and partner closely with the business will have a major impact.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Own and manage the relationship with the Managed Service Provider, ensuring accountability across service delivery, SLAs, and operational performance
• Establish governance, KPIs, and reporting structures for all IT and security vendors
• Oversee infrastructure operations across a multi-site environment, including Azure cloud, networks, and end-user systems
• Lead the internal cybersecurity program in partnership with a virtual CISO, including risk management, policy development, and incident response readiness
• Coordinate vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and remediation efforts
• Develop and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans
• Support and guide infrastructure and application decisions tied to growth and acquisition activity
• Lead key initiatives including financial systems implementation and evaluation of core business applications
• Manage IT budgets, vendor contracts, and cost optimization efforts
• Partner with business leaders to align technology with operational needs across field and corporate teams
• Support M&A diligence and integration efforts, including assessing and onboarding acquired systems
• Provide leadership to internal technical staff while remaining hands-on where needed

Required Experience

• 7 or more years of experience in IT infrastructure, operations, or cybersecurity roles
• 3 or more years of experience managing MSPs, vendors, or outsourced IT services
• Strong understanding of enterprise infrastructure including cloud environments, networks, and end-user systems
• Experience overseeing or contributing to cybersecurity programs, including risk management and incident response
• Proven ability to manage vendor relationships, contracts, and performance metrics
• Experience working in mid-sized organizations with evolving processes and infrastructure
• Strong project management skills with the ability to drive multiple initiatives simultaneously
• Ability to communicate effectively with both technical teams and business stakeholders

Nice to Have

• Experience in construction, distribution, or similar operational industries
• Familiarity with ERP systems such as Sage or QuickBooks
• Experience supporting multi-site environments with distributed teams
• Exposure to security frameworks such as NIST or CIS
• Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, ITIL, or cloud-related credentials

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary range: $150,000 – $160,000 base
• Full-time role with benefits package available
