Role Summary
We are seeking a highly independent, selfdriven TechnoFunctional Data Product Owner to lead client onboarding data requirements within Wealth Management. This role focuses on participant / investor data (e.g., name, address, SSN, tax identifiers) and requires strong handson data analysis, deep understanding of business processes, and the ability to translate requirements into implementationready technical deliverables with minimal supervision.
The ideal candidate operates autonomously, owns outcomes endtoend, and partners seamlessly with business, compliance, and engineering teams to deliver secure, highquality onboarding data products.
Key Responsibilities
TechnoFunctional Ownership & Independence
- Act as an endtoend owner of onboarding data requirements with little to no supervision
- Independently drive requirement discovery, analysis, documentation, and backlog readiness
- Proactively identify gaps, risks, and dependencies without waiting for direction
- Own delivery outcomes, not just documentation
Requirement Elicitation & Stakeholder Collaboration
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, compliance, operations, and capability teams to gather onboarding requirements
- Lead conversations focused on what participant data is collected, how it is captured, and why it is required
- Clearly document and validate requirements, assumptions, and decisions
Data Analysis & Documentation
- Perform data analysis to understand:
- Source system capabilities
- Existing data contracts, Kafka topics, APIs, and files
- Gaps, overlaps, and reuse opportunities
- Produce and own formal onboarding data documentation, including:
- Business Requirements Documents (BRDs) / Data Intake documents (similar to the attached template)
- Attribute grids with definitions and samples
- Kafka / API delivery expectations and performance requirements
- Data flow diagrams and narratives
- Work with Data Governance and SOR teams to validate:
- Authoritative sources
- Lineage and data ownership
- PII classification and handling
Jira, Backlog & Agile Delivery
- Act as Product Owner for Agile delivery squads
- Break down requirements into:
- Epics (capability-level onboarding outcomes)
- Features (data products, integrations, or domains)
- Technical Jira stories with clear acceptance criteria
- Write Jira stories that specify:
- Data inputs/outputs
- Kafka topic or API behavior
- Schema expectations
- Data quality and validation logic
- Write implementationready technical Jira epics, features, and stories so engineering teams can build with minimal clarification
Kafka, API & Integration Ownership
- Define onboarding data delivery patterns using:
- Kafka (event-driven architecture)
- REST / async APIs
- Collaborate with architecture and platform teams on:
- Kafka topic strategy, schemas, retention, and replay
- API contracts, versioning, and performance expectations
- Ensure solutions are scalable, reusable, and aligned to enterprise data standards
Governance, Risk & Compliance Alignment
- Ensure onboarding data products comply with KYC, AML, privacy, and regulatory requirements
- Partner with governance teams to embed:
- Data quality controls
- Metadata and lineage
- Security and entitlement rules
- Support auditability and traceability of onboarding data flows
Data Contracts & Documentation
- Produce and own data contracts, including:
- Canonical attribute definitions and semantics
- Schema structure, enums, and conditional logic
- Versioning and changemanagement expectations
- Create and maintain BRDs / Data Intake documents (similar to the attached template), ensuring accuracy and completeness
PII, Privacy & Governance
- Ensure secure handling of PII (SSN, DOB, address, tax data) in line with privacy and regulatory expectations
- Apply strong knowledge of data classification, masking, access control, and audit requirements
- Partner with governance and security teams to ensure compliance
AI Usage & Enablement
- Use AI tools responsibly to improve:
- Requirement analysis and documentation quality
- Identification of data patterns and validation logic
- Demonstrate sound judgment when using AI with regulated and sensitive data
Required Skills & Experience
- 8+ years in Financial Services, preferably Wealth Management onboarding
- Proven technofunctional background bridging business, data, and technology
- Strong handson data analysis experience at field and attribute level
- Demonstrated ability to write clear, technical, implementationready Jira stories
- Deep understanding of PII handling and regulatory requirements
- Highly motivated, selfstarter with the ability to operate independently and proactively
