DescriptionSIP Voice Engineer - VESTA NXT Call Handling Platform
Role Overview
We're looking for a SIP Voice Engineer who bridges traditional network engineering with deep session-control expertise. You won't just configure phones, you understand the DNA of a SIP packet, how vendors uniquely interpret RFCs, and how to make disparate systems talk to each other. You'll own the network and SIP design for Motorola VESTA NXT deployments, collaborate directly with SIP vendors to build integration designs, configure AudioCodes SBCs, and lead complex, multi-team troubleshooting.
You'll start by shadowing the principal engineer to learn the standard AudioCodes-to-VESTA setup, internal tooling, and remote access environment. Within the first few months, you'd begin picking up escalations and custom SBC configurations independently. By month three, the expectation is you're running the full cycle - from discovery call through configuration and testing - without needing to pull in multiple people.
Over time, the goal is for this person to step into the initial customer kickoff calls and own the SBC/network design upfront - work that currently sits with the Solutions Architects. That shift moves the role from reactive troubleshooting into leading the design process directly.
Key Responsibilities
SBC Design & Configuration: Deploy, configure, and maintain AudioCodes Session Border Controllers (primarily M800C hardware) across diverse customer environments. Every integration is different - every PBX, every SIP trunk provider does something unique.
Vendor Integration: Partner directly with external SIP vendors and customer PBX teams to create, validate, and execute integration designs. Get on the phone, ask the right questions, and build the design on the first pass - not the third.
Advanced Troubleshooting: When a deployment goes sideways beyond the standard playbook, you're the escalation point. Analyze packet captures, dissect SIP ladder diagrams, resolve codec negotiation mismatches, and lead cross-functional troubleshooting across field engineers, solutions architects, and external vendors.
Network Design for Voice: Build network templates for SBC deployments, including firewall traversal, BGP routing (e.g., Verizon SIP trunk scenarios), QoS/CoS configurations, and routing between local and cloud SBCs.
Standards & Governance: Contribute to the standards and governance documentation that guides field teams on how to deploy and integrate, and help expand the decision-tree framework currently being built for customer onboarding questionnaires.
