Data Center Engineering Operations TechnicianContract Length: 12 months

Position OverviewIntePros is seeking a Data Center Engineering Operations Technician to support the operation, maintenance, and reliability of mission-critical data center facilities.
This is a hands-on role focused on troubleshooting and maintaining electrical, mechanical, cooling, building automation, and life safety systems. The technician will perform preventative maintenance, respond to facility and equipment events, support infrastructure projects, and help ensure continuous data center availability.
The position may support multiple facilities. Candidates must be comfortable traveling between data center locations and temporarily working at alternate sites for training or while an assigned facility becomes operational.
Key Responsibilities- Perform daily facility rounds and record operating information from electrical, mechanical, cooling, and fire and life safety equipment.
- Monitor Building Management Systems and Electrical Power Management Systems.
- Maintain, operate, and troubleshoot mission-critical facility equipment.
- Troubleshoot facility and rack-level events within established service-level requirements.
- Perform preventative maintenance, root cause analysis, and equipment repairs.
- Support rack installation and decommissioning activities.
- Monitor work requests and manage issues through resolution.
- Execute technical projects from initial planning through completion.
- Create and update procedures and technical documentation supporting change management.
- Provide onsite oversight of contractors, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Confirm that work is performed according to established procedures, safety requirements, and local regulations.
- Maintain high standards for safety, security, reliability, and operational performance.
Equipment and SystemsThis role may support equipment including:
- Standby diesel generators and related fuel systems
- Three-phase electrical systems
- Switchgear, UPS units, PDUs, and wet-cell batteries
- Computer room air handling and cooling systems
- Centrifugal chillers and cooling towers
- Water and chemical treatment systems
- Air handlers, pumps, and motors
- Building automation systems
- Fire and life safety equipment
- General data center facility equipment
Schedule and Travel Requirements- Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, and rotating shifts of up to 12 hours.
- Availability for an on-call rotation when required by the assigned facility.
- Ability to commute between data center locations within 50 miles.
- Ability to travel more than 50 miles when required for training or operational support.
- Willingness to temporarily work at an established facility while the assigned location remains under development.
- Ability to support more than one facility based on operational needs.
Physical RequirementsCandidates must be able to perform the following responsibilities with reasonable accommodations:
- Regularly lift and move up to 39 pounds independently.
- Participate in team lifts involving items weighing more than 40 pounds.
- Climb ladders and stairs while maintaining balance.
- Walk, reach, grasp, carry, push, pull, bend, twist, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
- Perform work above shoulder level.
- Work in environments requiring company-provided hearing protection.
Required Qualifications- At least one year of electrical facilities maintenance experience or at least one year of mechanical facilities maintenance experience.
- At least one year of experience using Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical or mechanical equipment in a hands-on environment.
- Ability to work the required flexible schedule.
- Ability to travel or commute between data center locations as needed.
- Authorization to work in the United States without current or future employment sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications- Two or more years of data center engineering or mission-critical facilities experience.
- Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
- Experience creating and following technical procedures and operational documentation.
- Associate degree, technical degree, or comparable training in electrical, mechanical, HVAC, facilities engineering, or a related discipline.
