Summary

Data Center Technical Lead

150k-175k Remote (West Coast Preferred) + Travel

Lead mission-critical infrastructure deployments. Build high-performing field teams. Deliver complex projects around the world.

If you're an experienced data center or IT infrastructure leader who enjoys being close to the work, leading technical teams in the field, and solving complex deployment challenges, this is an opportunity to take ownership of high-visibility projects across commercial, defense, telecom, and maritime environments.

We're looking for a Data Center Technical Lead to lead a geographically dispersed team responsible for structured cabling and IT infrastructure deployments in colocation facilities, hyperscale and enterprise data centers, telecommunications environments, and military and commercial vessels.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who combines deep technical knowledge with the ability to organize people, logistics, schedules, and resources across multiple projects and locations.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out
  • Lead complex data center and critical infrastructure deployments
  • Work across hyperscale, colocation, enterprise, telecom, defense, and maritime environments
  • Manage and develop a geographically dispersed technical team
  • Take ownership of project execution from planning through installation and closeout
  • Work directly with customers, engineering teams, vendors, subcontractors, and government stakeholders
  • Help establish installation standards, processes, and best practices as the organization grows
  • Gain exposure to highly specialized mission-critical and secure infrastructure projects
  • Remote/regional position with significant domestic and international travel

What You'll Do

As the Data Center Technical Lead, you'll be responsible for making sure field teams have the people, materials, technical direction, and support needed to execute projects successfully.

You'll:
  • Lead, mentor, and develop teams of structured cabling and IT infrastructure technicians
  • Coordinate staffing and resources across multiple concurrent projects
  • Oversee structured cabling installations including fiber optic and copper systems
  • Manage installation of racks, cabinets, network equipment, and supporting power infrastructure
  • Ensure projects meet required quality, safety, security, and technical standards
  • Plan and monitor data center and critical infrastructure build-outs from mobilization through completion
  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, logistics, and project teams to ensure equipment and materials are ready for deployment
  • Support teams working across multiple regions and highly regulated environments
  • Oversee subcontractor and vendor performance
  • Identify project risks and resolve technical or operational issues in the field
  • Provide project updates, resource forecasts, and risk assessments to leadership
  • Conduct incident investigations and root cause analysis when issues occur
  • Help improve installation methodologies, SOPs, and quality assurance processes

Technical Experience We're Looking For

The strongest candidates will bring extensive experience with mission-critical infrastructure, including:
  • Structured cabling systems
  • Fiber optic installation and testing
  • Copper cabling
  • Data center racks and cabinets
  • Network infrastructure
  • Power distribution supporting IT environments
  • Colocation data centers
  • Hyperscale data centers
  • Enterprise data centers
  • Telecommunications facilities
  • Mission-critical or secure infrastructure environments

Experience with military, DoD, NAVSEA, or shipboard infrastructure is highly valuable but not required for every candidate.

What Makes Someone Successful Here

This role requires more than technical expertise. You'll need to be comfortable leading people and projects in fast-moving environments where details matter.

You're likely to thrive if you:
  • Can confidently lead experienced field technicians
  • Stay organized while managing multiple projects and locations
  • Communicate effectively with both technical teams and customers
  • Are comfortable making decisions in the field
  • Hold teams accountable while remaining approachable and supportive
  • Understand the importance of safety, security, documentation, and installation quality
  • Can troubleshoot technical and operational problems under tight timelines
  • Enjoy improving processes rather than simply following them
  • Are comfortable working with customers in commercial, government, and military environments
  • Can adapt quickly as project requirements and conditions change

Minimum Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, telecommunications, structured cabling, or related technical installation work
  • 5+ years of experience leading field-based or geographically dispersed technical teams
  • Demonstrated experience supporting complex data center, telecom, or mission-critical infrastructure projects
  • Strong knowledge of structured cabling, fiber optics, networking infrastructure, and associated power systems
  • Familiarity with TIA/EIA-568 and BICSI standards
  • Ability to work with project management and collaboration tools such as Excel, Word, Visio, Project, Planner, and Teams
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearances
  • Valid passport
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively throughout the U.S. and internationally

Certifications That Are a Plus

Relevant certifications may include:
  • BICSI RCDD
  • BICSI Technician
  • Fluke CCTT
  • CommScope, Leviton, Panduit, or related manufacturer certifications
  • CompTIA Network+
  • Cisco CCNA
  • OSHA 30
  • NFPA 70E
  • NAVSEA Cableway Certification
  • PMP
  • ITIL Foundation

A bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related discipline is preferred but not required for someone with strong relevant experience.

Military Experience

Prior military experience is highly valued, particularly candidates with backgrounds in:
  • U.S. Navy
  • Coast Guard
  • Information Systems Technician (IT)
  • Electronics Technician (ET)
  • Electrician's Mate or related electrical disciplines
  • Interior Communications
  • Machinery or shipboard technical systems

Experience with military cabling, communications systems, secure infrastructure, or shipboard installations can translate particularly well into this position.

Location & Travel

This is a remote/regional role with a preference for candidates located on the West Coast.

Travel is a major component of the position and may reach approximately 75-80%, depending on active projects.

Travel includes both domestic and international deployments, so candidates must maintain a valid passport and be comfortable spending significant time in the field.

The Opportunity

This is a chance to take on a key technical leadership role supporting infrastructure that organizations depend on every day.

You'll lead skilled technicians delivering the physical backbone behind modern data centers, secure communications, telecommunications infrastructure, and mission-critical systems.

For someone who enjoys technical leadership, field operations, complex deployments, and building strong teams, this role offers an opportunity to have a meaningful impact across projects on land and at sea.
