Active Directory Migration Consultant
Location: Remote
Role Overview
We are seeking an Active Directory Consultant for a six-month project. This role will conduct discovery interviews, document applications and servers, and manage Active Directory dependencies. The consultant will participate in technical workshops to develop migration processes for Windows, Linux, and Unix platforms and will use Quest On Demand Migration (ODM) to configure directory synchronization and migrate resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute application discovery and inventory activities, capturing server dependencies, LDAP/Kerberos dependencies, service accounts, and other AD components.
- Conduct discovery and documentation of source Domain Controllers and member servers, including OS details and domain memberships.
- Identify and document services such as PKI, DFS, DNS, DHCP, and File & Print, along with OU structures and Group Policies.
- Participate in technical design workshops covering OU structure, directory synchronization, and member server migration processes.
- Contribute to the development of technical documentation, including the Application Matrix, Migration Tracker, and End-to-End Migration Guide.
- Support the development and execution of the detailed migration schedule, including coordinating with application owners.
- Configure Quest ODM for migration workstreams, including agent configuration, sync group setup, and attribute synchronization.
- Coordinate with offshore resources to oversee back-end execution tasks, ensuring data accuracy.
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Active Directory administration and design, including GPOs, DNS, DHCP, and security group management.
- Demonstrated experience in application discovery and dependency mapping for large enterprise portfolios.
- Proficiency with Quest On Demand Migration (ODM), including configuration of directory migration components and attribute synchronization.
- Hands-on experience with Windows member server migrations, including full migration and retain-in-place scenarios.
- Working knowledge of Identity and Access Management principles, including PAM accounts and RBAC role design.
- Ability to produce thorough technical documentation for migration projects.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills suitable for direct client interaction.
- Familiarity with NAS server re-ACLing approaches.
- Working knowledge of Linux operating system versions and general administration tasks.
