SQL Server Database Administrator

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client that is seeking a SQL Server Database Administrator in Boston, MA.

Summary:
We are seeking a hands-on SQL Server Database Administrator to support a high-volume production environment. This role will play a key part in maintaining, optimizing, and scaling database performance as the current DBA prepares for retirement, offering strong ownership and long-term impact. This position focuses on database administration, backend performance, and cloud-hosted environments.

Key Responsibilities:
* Administer and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases across production and non-production environments
* Monitor and optimize performance in a high-traffic environment (millions of transactions per hour)
* Identify and resolve blocking, deadlocks, and query performance issues
* Troubleshoot database and backend application performance challenges
* Manage database hosting, capacity planning, and scalability
* Support cloud-hosted environments and performance tuning initiatives
* Implement backup, recovery, and high availability solutions
* Ensure database security, reliability, and best practices
* Participate in knowledge transfer and documentation for DBA transition

REQUIREMENTS:
* 5+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA
* Experience supporting high-volume, high-availability production environments
* Experience with cloud hosting and database performance scaling
* Experience with large-scale transaction environments (3-4M+ hits/hour)
* Experience supporting application teams in performance troubleshooting
* Strong expertise in SQL Server administration and performance tuning
* Strong understanding of backend application interactions with databases
* Familiarity with monitoring and performance tools
* Proven ability to troubleshoot blocking, concurrency, and performance issues
* Ability to work independently and collaborate across technical teams

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
