About the RoleWe are seeking a
Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Engineering team in Charlotte, NC. In this role, you will lead the mechanical design and implementation of complex building systems, with a primary focus on HVAC and piping. You will play a critical leadership role by driving technical excellence, guiding project teams, and delivering high-quality solutions that meet client, regulatory, and performance expectations.
The ideal candidate brings
8+ years of mechanical design or design-build experience, demonstrates strong ownership of projects, and thrives in a collaborative, deadline-driven environment.
Responsibilities- Lead mechanical design and implementation efforts from concept through construction and closeout, ensuring project scope, schedule, budget, and quality expectations are met.
- Design, specify, and select HVAC and mechanical systems with consideration for energy efficiency, life-cycle cost, constructability, and regulatory compliance.
- Perform technical analyses including load calculations, airflow analysis, and system sizing to support engineering decisions.
- Ensure all mechanical designs comply with applicable local codes and international standards, including ASHRAE, LEED, and NFPA requirements.
- Prepare, review, and approve technical deliverables such as construction drawings, specifications, equipment selections, submittals, and cost estimates.
- Oversee installation, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems to ensure functionality and performance.
- Serve as a technical authority on projects, providing guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and project team members.
- Collaborate closely with clients, owners, architects, contractors, and internal stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver effective mechanical solutions.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field from an accredited institution.
- 8+ years of professional experience in mechanical engineering design or design-build, with a focus on HVAC and piping systems.
- Proficiency with HVAC and mechanical design tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, Trane TRACE, and/or Carrier HAP.
- Strong understanding of mechanical codes, standards, and best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
Preferred Qualifications- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- LEED Accreditation.
- Working knowledge of plumbing system design.
- Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS).
- Proven experience mentoring junior engineers and leading technical teams.
- Strong self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
