Description:
Senior Active Directory Engineer

We are not accepting C2C or 1099 arrangements.

Locations: Charlotte, NC (Preferred: Brevard) or Chandler, AZ
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire (Conversion Eligible)
About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Active Directory Engineer to design, build, and manage highly complex enterprise Active Directory environments. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on architecture, implementation, and optimization-not operations or system administration.

You will play a key role in delivering secure, scalable identity infrastructure and integrating Active Directory across on-premises and cloud platforms.
What You'll Do
  • Design, build, and manage enterprise Active Directory infrastructure, including domain controllers, Group Policy, and organizational units
  • Deploy and maintain domain controllers in virtualized environments
  • Manage and support applications integrated with Active Directory (14+ systems)
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to authentication, replication, and access control
  • Develop and enforce security standards, including privileged access management and auditing
  • Automate workflows and administrative tasks using PowerShell scripting
  • Partner with IT, cybersecurity, and application teams to integrate identity services with enterprise and cloud platforms
  • Maintain technical documentation and establish best practices for AD architecture and operations
  • Participate in compliance audits, risk assessments, and security reviews
  • Track and manage work using Jira in an Agile environment
Minimum Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in Active Directory engineering within large-scale enterprise environments
  • Hands-on experience building, configuring, and managing domain controllers
  • Experience with domain controller virtualization
  • Strong scripting skills using PowerShell
  • Deep understanding of:
    • Windows Server
    • Group Policy
    • DNS and core AD services
  • Experience working in Agile environments and using Jira
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Azure Active Directory and hybrid identity solutions
  • Knowledge of IAM frameworks, compliance standards, and privileged access management
  • Familiarity with cloud integrations and identity federation
  • Experience with Microsoft Hyper-V or similar virtualization platforms
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to mentor junior engineers and lead technical initiatives
What We're Looking For
  • A hands-on engineer who builds systems-not just maintains them
  • Strong problem-solver who thrives in complex, high-scale environments
  • Collaborative team player with a focus on security, automation, and reliability
