$40/hr (2 5 years of relevant experience)
$46/hr (5+ years of relevant experience)
Duration: 24 Months + Possibility to extend Job Summary: Job Overview:

We are seeking a hands-on Tool Designer who excels at bridging engineering design with manufacturing execution. This role focuses on creating practical, production-ready designs while collaborating closely with shop floor teams to ensure efficient build and implementation.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Design:

  • Develop accurate 3D models and detailed 2D manufacturing drawings
  • Ensure designs are complete, clear, and ready for fabrication

Manufacturing-Focused Design:

  • Design with machining, fabrication, and assembly processes in mind
  • Apply appropriate tolerances to balance quality and cost
  • Consider lead times, materials, and shop capabilities during design

Documentation & Quality:

  • Produce clear, concise drawings that reduce manufacturing questions
  • Follow drafting standards, documentation practices, and revision control

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Communicate design intent effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Work closely with machinists, welders, inspectors, and engineers
  • Incorporate feedback from shop floor to improve designs

Problem Solving:

  • Address design challenges with practical, solution-oriented thinking
  • Adapt to changing requirements and constraints efficiently

Ownership & Accountability:

  • Take responsibility for designs from concept through build and testing
  • Follow through on revisions, corrections, and continuous improvements
Required Qualifications:
  • Experience with Creo or similar 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, NX, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of fabrication and manufacturing processes
  • Engineering background (Mechanical or related field)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Programming experience (C++, Python, SQL)
  • Project management experience
  • Experience with supply chain, purchasing, or vendor coordination
