Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate our Orthopaedics business to establish a standalone Orthopaedics company, operating as DePuy Synthes. The process of the planned separation is anticipated to be completed within 18 to 24 months, subject to legal requirements, including consultation with works councils and other employee representative bodies, as may be required, regulatory approvals and other customary conditions and approvals.
Should you accept this position, it is anticipated that, following conclusion of the transaction, you would be an employee of DePuy Synthes, and your employment would be governed by DePuy Synthes employment processes, programs, policies, and benefit plans. In that case, details of any planned changes would be provided to you by DePuy Synthes at an appropriate time and subject to any necessary consultation processes.
Purpose: You will provide subject matter expertise, knowledge and execution support in the areas of physics-based modeling and simulation, computational biomechanics, musculoskeletal modeling, and other areas of pre-clinical evidence generation. The individual will develop, verify, validate, assess and report on innovative computational methods to support product pipelines. The role involves collaboration with cross-functional project teams through all phases of the product development process, and assisting the technical team with planning, executing, documenting and communicating testing activities. Additionally, the role will leverage techniques and fundamentals of data science, machine learning and advanced analytics to support research & development.
You will:- Execute simulation and physical testing protocols to support evidence generation, product performance, reliability, safety and regulatory submissions
- Develop and refine workflows and experimental methods to improve designs and generate evidence
- Author technical reports for internal documentation, regulatory submissions and peer-reviewed publications to support evidence and marketing claims
- Collaborate with cross-functional team members including product development, quality, and regulatory to identify modeling opportunities and communicate technical findings
- Interpret industry (e.g. ASTM), regulatory guidance (e.g. FDA) & company standards and author test methods that are consistent and compliant
- Effectively and professionally communicate test findings, technical challenges, and proposed resolutions to teams and management
- Keep up to date with developments in modeling and simulation, their applications in Orthopaedics surgery, and reviews of technical literature
- Participate in laboratory work and hands-on testing and evaluation when required
- Collaborate with project management to ensure effective utilization of laboratory resources, personnel, and equipment, and provide regular communication to management regarding performance metrics and potential operational bottlenecks
Qualifications: Required:- Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline (mechanical engineering, systems engineering, electrical engineering, computer engineering or related fields) with 6+ years relevant work experience
- Experience with modeling and simulation, digital engineering or in silico research and development with knowledge and application of mechanics, engineering principles and product development processes
- Proficiency with CAE/simulation tools (ANSYS, LS-Dyna, Abaqus, Altair), CAD software (NX, PTC Creo, Solidworks), and programming languages (Python, C/C++, Fortran, MATLAB)
- Experience with the development, verification and validation of computational models
- Analysis of data using complex statistical tools and Six Sigma Design Tools (e.g. Gauge R&R, DOE)
- Good written and verbal communication skills, ability to prioritize tasks, and work effectively within a team
Preferred: - Master's Degree or Ph.D. with post-graduate relevant work experience
- Experience in medical technologies industry, Orthopaedics desired
- Experience in data acquisition, data management and statistical analysis
- Expertise in creating, testing, and implementing machine learning algorithms as well as managing training datasets
- Hands-on physical laboratory experience and CAD proficiency
- Demonstrated understanding of various types of manufacturing, mechanisms, materials, and test equipment
