Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Engineer

Oracle Database Migration Specialist | Remote — U.S. | Contract

Key Responsibilities

Phase I — Discovery & Rollback Design

• Conduct technical audit of the existing Oracle 19c SE2 environment including tablespace configuration, patch level, character set, Oracle home, and installed components

• Document a formal Go/No-Go rollback plan ensuring the source database instance remains live as a fallback throughout the cutover window

• Validate Oracle BYOL eligibility or confirm subscription license coverage for OCI deployment

Phase II — OCI Foundation & Connectivity

• Provision OCI tenancy, compartments, IAM policies, and Virtual Cloud Network (VCN) with appropriate subnets and security lists

• Deploy Oracle Base Database Service (PaaS) or IaaS VM with Oracle 19c SE2 in the target OCI region

• Configure OCI Site-to-Site VPN (IPsec/IKEv2) between OCI and the customer''s on-premises plant firewall

• Produce a network diagram documenting VCN layout, subnets, and VPN tunnel topology

Phase III — Migration & Validation

• Coordinate Oracle Data Pump export with the source MSP and manage secure file transfer to OCI

• Execute Data Pump import, expand SYSTEM and SYSAUX tablespaces as required, and remediate space issues

• Validate all tablespaces against source row count baseline per defined acceptance criteria

• Verify OCI instance reachability from existing cross-site synchronization processes

Phase IV — Cutover & Latency Testing

• Provide new OCI connection parameters for manufacturing terminals

• Conduct round-trip latency benchmarking from the customer site to the target OCI region — confirm sub-20ms target

• Execute Go/No-Go decision and trigger rollback procedure if latency criteria are not met

Phase V — Handoff & Operational Readiness

• Configure OCI Backup policies, retention rules, and OCI Monitoring alerts for instance availability and performance

• Set up OCI Bastion for secure ongoing DBA access without exposing a public IP on the database instance

• Deliver as-built documentation, network diagram, rollback procedure, and latency validation report

Experience Requirements

Experience Area Minimum Requirement

Oracle DBA 5+ years Oracle database administration including Oracle 19c. Must have hands-on Data Pump (expdp/impdp) experience on production databases.

OCI Experience 2+ years hands-on OCI experience. Must have deployed at least one Oracle database on OCI (Base Database Service preferred).

Cloud Migration At least 1 completed Oracle cloud migration (on-premises or MSP-hosted to OCI/AWS/Azure). Lift and shift experience preferred.

VPN / Networking Hands-on Site-to-Site VPN configuration (IPsec/IKEv2). Experience configuring both the cloud gateway side and coordinating the on-premises firewall side.

Overall Experience 7+ years in cloud infrastructure and/or Oracle database engineering roles.
