Role Overview
The Services Engineering Lead provides technical leadership to an engineering team focused on the design, development, and maintenance of backend services, APIs, and distributed systems. This role involves architecting scalable microservices, establishing engineering standards, and ensuring the overall engineering health of the product area. The lead will collaborate with various teams to deliver high-performance solutions for mobile and web applications, with a focus on expanding casino-focused work and brands.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership to a team of engineers working on backend services and APIs.
- Lead the design and development of Java/Spring Boot microservices and system integrations.
- Architect, design, and implement scalable microservices and distributed systems for cloud and on-premise deployment.
- Manage container orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes, and maintain GitOps workflows with Argo CD.
- Build and support event-driven architectures using Kafka and messaging patterns.
- Design and operate large-scale distributed systems and NoSQL database solutions like Couchbase.
- Take ownership of the delivery pipeline, including post-release support and monitoring.
- Mentor engineers, conduct code reviews, and foster continuous improvement in engineering practices.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies to ensure engineering progress aligns with product roadmaps.
Required Qualifications
Experience: 7+ years of software development/engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a technical leadership role.
Technical Skills:- Strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, and microservice architecture.
- Proficiency with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes), with an understanding of its operational aspects.
- Experience with GitOps workflows and tools like Argo CD.
- Experience with Kafka and event-driven architecture.
- Experience with Couchbase or other NoSQL databases.
- Experience with GraphQL and modern API design.
- Experience designing and operating large-scale, customer-facing distributed systems.
Professional Skills:- A clear ownership mindset with strong end-to-end accountability for delivery.
- Proficiency with Agile methodologies.
- Experience working with offshore and distributed teams to drive work to completion.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with reactive programming (e.g., WebFlux, Project Reactor).
- Experience with API gateway architecture (e.g., Apigee).
- Experience with both NoSQL and relational databases.
- Familiarity with web and mobile solution development.
