The AI Automation Intern will support SmartPLAN - RigCLOUD initiatives focused on improving workflow efficiency through AI tools, structured data practices, and process automation. This role will work with operations and drilling-focused teams to identify repetitive tasks, organize information more effectively, and assist with practical solutions that improve planning consistency, reporting, and operational support.


AI and SmartPLAN Automation Support

  • Assist in identifying SmartPLAN workflows, reporting steps, or repetitive activities that can be improved through AI tools and process automation.
  • Support the review, cleanup, and structuring of operational or planning data used in SmartPLAN-related processes.
  • Help evaluate practical AI applications for summarization, workflow assistance, document generation, and process standardization.
  • Work with drilling, operations, and technical teams to better understand user needs and translate them into automation opportunities.
  • Assist with testing prototypes, validating outputs, and documenting results to ensure solutions are practical and reliable.
  • Create simple process maps, user guides, and documentation for new or improved workflows.
  • Support internal reporting, analysis, and presentation materials related to SmartPLAN efficiency and automation initiatives.
  • Contribute ideas for continuous improvement in digital workflows, knowledge capture, and day-to-day process execution.
  • Learn the SmartPLAN / RigCLOUD environment and build a working understanding of drilling-related planning workflows.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Engineering Bachelor?s degree in progress.
  • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated ability to develop analysis spreadsheets and detailed performance reports.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including management of large datasets, creation of complex graphs/reports, and automated analysis using VBA.
  • Familiarity with AI tools and interest in applying them to business or operational workflows.
  • Interest in drilling, well planning, operations, or energy technology.
  • Strong curiosity, problem-solving ability, and willingness to improve manual processes.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Power BI for data visualization and reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret performance trends from large, complex datasets.
  • Experience with SmartPLAN & RigCLOUD, and related drilling performance platforms.\
  • Preferred experience in drilling operations and/or drilling performance roles.
  • Preferred understanding of the drilling process, including the mechanics and physics involved.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Occasional travel will be required.
