Dynamics 365 Data Engineer Azure Synapse & Power BI

Come join our growing team as a hands-on Dynamics 365 Data Engineer to build and maintain data pipelines, curated data models, and reporting solutions within the Microsoft Azure ecosystem.

This role will work extensively with data originating from Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Dataverse, including data made available through Azure Synapse Link. The Data Engineer will transform raw Bronze-layer data into clean, structured Silver datasets and validated Gold-layer reporting solutions.

The ideal candidate is more than a Power BI report developer. This person must be comfortable owning the full data lifecycle from source-system integration and data transformation through modeling, validation, reporting, and performance optimization. This position is best suited for someone who has personally built both the underlying data pipelines and the Power BI reporting layer. Candidates whose experience is limited primarily to dashboard creation, business analysis, Dynamics 365 functional consulting, or Azure infrastructure administration may not be aligned with the role.

Key Responsibilities

Azure Data Engineering

• Design, build, and maintain data pipelines that transform raw Bronze-layer data into curated Silver and Gold datasets.

• Develop and maintain data structures within Azure Data Lake to support enterprise reporting and analytics.

• Work with data sourced from Microsoft Dynamics 365 through Azure Synapse Link, Dataverse, and other internal systems.

• Build transformations using SQL, joins, normalization, business rules, and data-quality controls.

• Integrate data from ERP, e-commerce, financial, operational, supply-chain, and other enterprise systems.

• Maintain and optimize pipeline, transformation, and query performance.

• Automate data movement, data refreshes, report delivery, and scheduled processing.

• Support integration across Azure services, Power Platform, reporting tools, and downstream systems.

Data Modeling and Quality

• Create scalable and reusable data models that improve data usability, consistency, and reporting performance.

• Validate Gold-layer data and reporting outputs against source systems.

• Identify and resolve data-quality, integrity, reconciliation, and consistency issues.

• Support and evolve the organization s Bronze, Silver, and Gold medallion architecture.

• Maintain clear visibility into how data moves from source systems through final reports.

• Follow data governance, naming, documentation, and architecture standards.

Power BI and Reporting

• Build and enhance Power BI dashboards, reports, semantic models, and datasets.

• Develop DAX calculations, measures, relationships, and reporting logic.

• Optimize Power BI data models and reports for performance, usability, and reliable refreshes.

• Build reporting datasets that can be reused across multiple business functions.

• Troubleshoot data-refresh, dataset, reporting, and performance issues.

Business Partnership

• Partner directly with Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, and other business teams to understand reporting and analytics needs.

• Translate business requirements into data pipelines, models, dashboards, and technical reporting solutions.

• Support ad hoc data requests, analysis, and reporting needs.

• Explain complex data concepts to business stakeholders in clear, practical language.

• Provide guidance on data definitions, proper data usage, reporting standards, and analytics best practices.

• Document data pipelines, transformations, data models, architecture, and reporting logic.

Required Qualifications

• Prio professional experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, business intelligence engineering, or a related data role.

• Hands-on experience working with Microsoft Dynamics 365 or Dataverse data.

• Experience with Azure Synapse Link, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory, or similar Azure data-integration services.

• Experience developing and supporting data pipelines within Azure Data Lake or a comparable cloud data platform.

• Strong SQL skills, including complex joins, transformations, data validation, query optimization, and relational data modeling.

• Experience transforming structured and unstructured data into curated, report-ready datasets.

• Practical understanding of medallion architecture, including Bronze, Silver, and Gold data layers.

• Experience creating Power BI dashboards, reports, datasets, and semantic models.

• Experience with DAX, data relationships, calculated measures, and Power BI performance optimization.

• Understanding of data quality, governance, lineage, naming standards, and technical documentation.

• Experience supporting reporting and analytics workflows from source data through final visualization.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations, Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement, CRM, ERP, or supply-chain data.

• Experience integrating data from multiple enterprise systems, including ERP, e-commerce, finance, operations, or supply-chain platforms.

• Familiarity with Microsoft Power Platform and Power Automate.

• Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, PySpark, or another lakehouse platform.

• Experience supporting financial, operational, supply-chain, inventory, or executive reporting.

• Familiarity with source-to-report data lineage and automated data-quality monitoring.
