Role Summary
This technical specialist position focuses on automation within power and energy infrastructure, supporting commissioning, startup, and operational activities. The role requires a high level of technical expertise in automation systems such as PLCs, DCS, and SCADA, with responsibility for ensuring system performance, safety, and compliance during energization and system turnover. It involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to facilitate efficient commissioning processes and system integrations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead automation system commissioning, including development and execution of commissioning plans, procedures, and test protocols.
  • Coordinate factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT), ensuring thorough punch-list resolution and system documentation.
  • Support and validate control system configurations, startup/shutdown logic, alarm management, and SCADA integration.
  • Prepare technical briefings, commissioning readiness reviews, and post-event summaries for project leadership and teams.
  • Maintain compliance with industry standards such as NFPA 70E, IEEE, and NERC, including supporting cybersecurity initiatives and hardware lifecycle activities.
  • Troubleshoot PLC, DCS, and HMI issues during energization and startup, providing real-time support for field operations.
  • Collaborate with engineers, construction teams, operations, and OEMs to ensure design and operational compliance and develop corrective action plans.
  • Act as a technical authority for automation-related standards, including documentation and turnover package management.
  • Contribute to continuous process improvement by incorporating lessons learned into future projects and commissioning practices.
  • Support operator training and knowledge transfer to ensure operational readiness and system understanding.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in power generation, energy infrastructure, commissioning, or industrial automation.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with a focus on safety during high-risk activities such as energization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and field reporting tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of enterprise automation systems, including AssetCentre or equivalents, and configuration management.
  • Solid understanding of PLCs, DCS, SCADA, HMI interfaces, and communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, and IEC 61850.
  • Experience supporting commissioning workflows, documentation tracking, and system turnover processes.
  • Ability to interpret complex technical programs and troubleshoot automation hardware/software issues effectively.

Publishing Pay Range: $22.00 - $30.00 hourly

This position is based in office and requires employee to work on-site.
