Education: Associate degree or 2-year technical degree in CAD/CAM, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electromechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field.

Description

We are seeking a contract Drafting/CAD Technician II to support engineering, maintenance, and operations teams with the creation, revision, control, and management of technical drawings and related project documentation.

This role will focus on developing and maintaining accurate CAD drawings, supporting design detailing from initial engineering concepts, and ensuring drawing updates are properly reviewed, documented, and controlled within established drawing management and PDM systems.

The CAD Technician will work closely with engineers to convert conceptual or modeled designs into complete drawing packages, update existing drawings based on field conditions, field markups, legacy drawings, or project changes, and maintain drawing accuracy throughout the revision process.

Responsibilities will also include supporting project documentation needs, organizing drawings, incorporating redlines, digitizing legacy drawings, tracking revisions, performing basic engineering calculations, updating specifications, and coordinating supporting technical information.

This position will interface with internal customers, primarily operations and maintenance personnel, to document requests, retrieve existing drawings, clarify drawing needs, and help ensure accurate technical information is available to support daily plant activities, troubleshooting, and project execution.

The ideal candidate will have strong CAD drafting skills, experience working in a controlled documentation environment, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with engineering, maintenance, and operations personnel.

Experience with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar CAD platforms is preferred, along with familiarity with PDM or drawing vault systems, manufacturing environments, mechanical or electrical equipment documentation, and continuous improvement of drawing and documentation workflows.

Requirements:
Proficiency with SolidWorks or comparable 3D CAD software
Ability to create, revise, and maintain detailed drawings and drawing packages
Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing drawings
Working knowledge of GD&T and standard drafting practices
Experience updating drawings from redlines, field changes, engineering input, or project documentation
Experience converting legacy drawings, sketches, field markups, or other source documentation into accurate, controlled CAD drawings
Ability to support basic engineering calculations and prepare or revise technical specifications under engineering direction
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and general computer-based documentation tools
Strong attention to detail, organization, and document control discipline
Ability to identify and recommend improvements to drawing, documentation, and workflow processes
Ability to train new employees or team members on established drawing management, CAD, and documentation procedures
Ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision
Strong verbal and written communication skills

Qualifications
Experience with SolidWorks or comparable 3D CAD software
Experience creating, revising, and maintaining engineering drawings and drawing packages
Knowledge of GD&T and standard drafting practices
Experience working with controlled drawings, revisions, redlines, and technical documentation
Ability to interpret engineering concepts and translate them into accurate CAD drawings
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
Ability to effectively collaborate with engineers, maintenance personnel, operations teams, and other internal customers
Experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or plant engineering environment is preferred
