Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Linux Automation & Platform Engineer to lead and support enterprise-scale Linux environments. This role focuses on automation, CI/CD enablement, cloud and hybrid infrastructure, and operational excellence across mission-critical systems. The ideal candidate brings deep Linux engineering expertise combined with strong automation, container, and cloud provisioning skills, and can operate effectively in regulated, high-availability environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain automation solutions for Linux system provisioning, patching, and configuration management using Ansible and AWX.
  • Lead enterprise Linux lifecycle initiatives, including in-place OS upgrades and standardization across large server estates.
  • Support and enhance CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and Git-based workflows, including access control, deployment automation, and governance.
  • Provide advanced Linux platform support for database-hosting systems, ensuring reliability, security, performance, and compliance.
  • Engineer and maintain container platform infrastructure, supporting Kubernetes and OpenShift worker nodes through patching, tuning, and middleware support.
  • Provision and manage hybrid cloud infrastructure across AWS and Azure using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
  • Collaborate with development, security, and operations teams to improve deployment reliability, reduce manual effort, and increase system stability.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, standards, and runbooks to support operational consistency and knowledge sharing.
  • Deliver technical guidance, mentorship, and training to engineering teams on automation tools, Linux best practices, and platform operations.
  • Monitor system health and performance using enterprise observability tools and respond to incidents in support of high-availability environments.

Required Qualifications

  • 20+ years of enterprise Linux/UNIX engineering experience supporting large-scale, production environments.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 5-8) and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES).
  • 5+ years of Ansible experience, including playbook development, automation at scale, and AWX/Tower integrations.
  • 3+ years of Jenkins experience, including pipeline configuration, access management, and automation workflows.
  • Proven experience supporting PostgreSQL and Oracle at the operating system level, including patching and production troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and OpenShift, particularly for container host lifecycle management.
  • 3+ years of cloud and IaC experience using AWS, Azure, and Terraform for infrastructure provisioning and automation.
  • Proficiency with shell scripting (Bash, KornShell) and Git-based version control practices.
  • Experience operating in regulated or compliance-driven environments with a strong focus on uptime and risk mitigation.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with enterprise patching and content management tools (e.g., Red Hat Satellite).
  • Familiarity with middleware installations and third-party security/monitoring agents.
  • Strong background in monitoring and observability platforms such as Splunk and SolarWinds.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical initiatives across multiple teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.

Certifications & Education

  • UNIX System Programming or Administration certifications preferred.
  • Formal training or certification in UNIX/Linux administration is a plus.

Why Join This Role?

  • Lead automation and platform initiatives at enterprise scale.
  • Work across modern Linux, container, and cloud ecosystems.
  • Influence engineering standards, automation strategy, and operational best practices.
  • Make a direct impact on reliability, security, and efficiency in complex environments.
