Resource 1 is in need of a Sr. Tandem/COBOL Developer to serve as a Technical Lead for a growing HP NonStop (Tandem) development team. While this role does not carry a formal people-manager title, it plays a critical leadership function as the team scales toward 20+ direct contributors. This position is ideal for a highly experienced Tandem developer who enjoys technical ownership, mentoring, and improving development practices, while remaining hands-on with code and production systems.
This is a fully remote position, but candidates must be located in one of the following states: AK, AR, AZ, CA, FL, GA, HI, ID, IL, MT, NE, NV, OR, TN, TX, WA
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a go-to technical authority for Tandem architecture, development standards, and best practices.
- Provide code reviews, design guidance, and technical mentorship to other developers.
- Assist management with task delegation, prioritization, and risk identification.
- Oversee the health and sustainability of a homegrown ERP on HP NonStop.
- Identify and address technical debt, operational risks, and aging components.
- Promote consistency in coding standards, documentation, and deployment practices.
- Remain actively involved in COBOL development, batch processing, and production support.
- Troubleshoot complex issues across Tandem applications and integrations.
- Support high-availability, high-reliability production systems.
- Support onboarding and ramp-up of new Tandem developers.
- Mentor mid-level and junior-level resources.
Required Qualifications:
- 10+ years of HP NonStop (Tandem) development experience.
- Deep expertise in COBOL, TACL, Enscribe, and SQL/MP.
- Proven experience acting as a technical lead or senior individual contributor.
- Experience supporting mission-critical, high-availability systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience leading teams through platform modernization or automation initiatives.
- Background in financial, ERP, or transaction-heavy systems.
- Prior exposure to mentoring, onboarding, or informal people leadership.
- Ability to bridge technical and non-technical stakeholders.
