Resource 1 is in need of a Sr. Tandem/COBOL Developer for a remote full-time/permanent position with our client in Eugene, OR.
This is a fully remote position, but candidates must be located in one of the following states: AK, AR, AZ, CA, FL, GA, HI, ID, IL, MT, NE, NV, OR, TN, TX, WA.
Responsibilities:
- Work on a team of 11 for ongoing development (enhancements/modifications) to a home-grown Tandem application written primarily in COBOL, Pathway, and SQL.
- The application functions as an ERP and is used for several key areas of our client’s business.
- Provide support for existing applications written in COBOL.
- Develop new applications, processes, and procedures in COBOL using both legacy and newer methodologies.
- Develop applications using embedded SQL statements in COBOL programs as legacy files are transitioned to SQL tables.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience with COBOL/XCOBOL coupled with HP NonStop.
- Experience developing and supporting online and batch COBOL applications.
- Thorough knowledge of programming concepts, software development lifecycle, system or data analysis, project management protocols, debugging and testing methods and tools.
- Strong documentation skills.
- Experience in identifying system requirements and specifications and making necessary modifications.
- Strong research and analytical skills with the ability to resolve complex technical issues quickly and effectively.
- Solid organizational and estimating skills with the ability to complete projects within specific deadlines.
- The ability to present and discuss technical information to users, business partners, and IT team peers.
Plusses:
- Experience with SQL, SQLXpress, or SOAP/REST APIs.
- Experience with heavy equipment industry software and business processes.
