Director, IT Asset Management & Automation
Charlotte, NC (preferred) | New York, NY (secondary) - 3 days onsite at either location
FTE
About the Opportunity
Our organization is on a mission to eliminate manual reconciliation from IT operations entirely. As the central IT function serving a portfolio of 360+ global businesses, we run a modern, cloud-forward infrastructure estate—and we are building the data and automation foundation to match it.
The Director, IT Asset Management & Automation will architect and deliver that foundation. This is a hands-on technical leadership role—not a CMDB custodian position. The focus is integration engineering, automation, and data quality across a complex, multi-source ITAM environment. Our primary platform is currently ServiceNow, but we are actively evaluating alternatives; platform-agnostic thinking is essential.
The right candidate thinks in data flows, builds in APIs and automation frameworks, and has the vision to drive a multi-year roadmap toward AI-enabled IT operations. This is a rare opportunity to define the automation strategy for a world-class infrastructure organization at scale.
Team Leadership
You will directly manage three asset management professionals:
- Software Asset Manager – responsible for license compliance, SaaS utilization, and software lifecycle
- Hardware Asset Manager (End User) – manages PCs, laptops, and end-user devices via HAM in ServiceNow
- Hardware Asset Manager (Infrastructure) – manages servers, network devices, infrastructure, and services
You will actively develop this team toward higher-value, automation-focused work—shifting them away from manual reconciliation and toward operating as data-informed asset stewards.
ITAM Integration Architecture & Live Data Pipelines
Our asset data lives across many systems—ServiceNow (HAM, SAM, CMDB), a separate network device ITAM platform (NetBox), cloud platforms, endpoint management tools, and a cybersecurity vulnerability suite that is not yet integrated. Your job is to bring it all together.
- Design and deliver a federated asset data platform ingesting from cloud-native inventory services (AWS Config, Azure Resource Graph, Google Cloud Platform Asset Inventory), SaaS management platforms, endpoint management APIs (Intune, Jamf, Kandji), and identity/directory systems (Entra ID, Okta)
- Connect and normalize data from our separate network device ITAM platform into the central configuration management platform—eliminating the current silo
- Integrate the cybersecurity team's vulnerability and endpoint detection suite as an additional data source for asset visibility and risk correlation
- Build real-time and event-driven integrations that normalize, deduplicate, and synchronize asset data across the enterprise—replacing manual imports and spreadsheet reconciliations
- Triangulate across many incomplete or partial data sets to produce a reliable, unified asset record; our data is often incomplete and distributed, and success requires knowing how to wrangle and reconcile it
- Evaluate and participate in our current platform selection process; we are conducting requirements gathering and evaluating alternatives to ServiceNow—you will help assess options and own the technical migration plan and execution
- Own the technical integration roadmap end to end, from quick wins to multi-year architecture
Data Quality, Hygiene & Automation
- Own IT asset data accuracy and completeness—not just as a governance concern but as an active engineering problem
- Automate data collection, enrichment, and reconciliation processes across all asset categories; reduce reliance on manual updates and periodic audits
- Partner with Finance and Procurement stakeholders (who sit within the same broader organization) to streamline ITAM workflows and align asset data with financial and vendor management processes
- Work directly with engineering and security stakeholders to ensure asset data reflects operationally meaningful, accurate, and actionable information
- Explore and integrate Cloud FinOps data as a complementary asset and cost visibility layer
Automation & AI-Enabled Operations
- Drive adoption of automation and AI tooling for IT operations tasks—asset governance, anomaly detection, lifecycle alerting, and policy enforcement
- Partner with the organization's automation engineering team to leverage existing toolkits and establish integration best practices across the broader I&O organization
- Move the team progressively from rule-based automation toward AI-assisted and AI-driven workflows, with measurable reduction in manual effort
- Serve as the team's in-house AI thought leader—staying current on AI and LLM developments, setting aside dedicated time to learn and experiment, and applying new capabilities pragmatically to ITAM and automation problems
- Participate in enterprise-level AI thought leadership as the function matures
Cross-Functional Influence
- Operate as an integration engineering leader within the broader 60-person I&O organization—partnering laterally with Cloud, Identity, Networking, Security, SRE, and Unified Communications engineering leads without relying on formal authority
- Collaborate with the ServiceNow developer embedded in our group and with the ServiceNow platform owner (Nicole Conroy) to coordinate on platform decisions and integration work
- Engage senior executives in Charlotte and New York, providing clear updates on automation initiatives, roadmap progress, and business value delivered
Required — Integration Engineering & Automation
- ~10 years of experience in a technical discipline; ideal backgrounds include data engineering, automation engineering, cloud engineering, RPA, or infrastructure engineering
- Proven experience designing and delivering integrations across heterogeneous enterprise systems—cloud platforms, SaaS tools, on-prem infrastructure, and identity providers
- Demonstrated ability to wrangle incomplete, inconsistent data across many sources and triangulate to a reliable result—this is a core day-to-day challenge
- Fluency with REST and GraphQL APIs, event-driven integration patterns, and data pipeline design (extraction, normalization, deduplication, synchronization)
- Scripting and automation proficiency in Python, PowerShell, or similar; experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible, or equivalent) is a strong plus
- Hands-on experience with cloud-native asset or inventory services (AWS Config, Azure Resource Graph, Google Cloud Platform Asset Inventory, or equivalent)
- Demonstrated ability to create and own a technical roadmap—not just execute against one
- Project management mindset: able to juggle migrations, integration work, and ongoing operations simultaneously without losing momentum
Required — Leadership & Communication
- Track record of influencing technical outcomes across peer engineering teams without direct authority—cloud, identity, networking, security
- Experience presenting technical strategy and program updates to senior executives and translating complex technical concepts into business value
- Strong business acumen: ability to evaluate cost, efficiency, and risk tradeoffs and make defensible recommendations
- Mid-career orientation—we are looking for someone energized by building and modernizing, not maintaining the status quo
Bonus
- Experience with configuration management platforms (ServiceNow HAM/SAM/CMDB, Jira Assets, or equivalent) as integration targets or data consumers
- Familiarity with SaaS management platforms (Zylo, Torii, BetterCloud) and endpoint management APIs (Intune, Jamf)
- Experience with network device ITAM platforms such as NetBox
- Demonstrated application of AI or LLM-based tooling to reduce manual reconciliation, accelerate discovery, or surface operational insights from asset data
- Experience with agentic AI frameworks and IT operations automation platforms (e.g., Microsoft Copilot Studio, Claude, or equivalent)
- Cloud FinOps exposure
