Title: SQL Backend Developer
Location: NYC, NY (Madison Ave.)
Term: 12 Months +
Experience Level: Mid-Level (3-5 years)
About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and personable Backend Developer who can also contribute to front-end development when needed. This is a hands-on, individual contributor role-not a managerial or analyst position. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to explain complex concepts in simple terms.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain backend systems and APIs.
Collaborate with front-end developers to ensure seamless integration between backend and UI components.
Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across the stack.
Optimize database performance and queries for scalability and reliability.
Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback.
Document technical processes and solutions in clear, user-friendly language.
Required Skills & Qualifications
3-5 years of professional experience in backend development.
Strong proficiency in SQL, including advanced concepts such as:
o Common Table Expressions (CTEs)
o Query optimization and execution plans
o Indexing strategies
o Troubleshooting complex queries
Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Hands-on experience with coding and debugging in a production environment.
Familiarity with front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) for occasional UI work.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Skills
Experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL).
Knowledge of backend frameworks (e.g., Node.js, Django, Spring Boot).
Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform).
Understanding of RESTful API design and integration.
Familiarity with version control systems (Git).
