Job Description

our direct client is seeking an experienced Website Accessibility Specialist to support a statewide website accessibility initiative. The selected contractor will review, update, and convert existing website content to ensure compliance with WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards and State of Ohio Digital Accessibility Policy (IT-09).

This role will focus on transforming content currently available in PDF and Word formats into accessible HTML web pages, ensuring accessibility, usability, and compliance across the AGE website.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct a comprehensive inventory and audit of existing website content to identify accessibility gaps.
  • Convert documents and pages (PDF, Word, etc.) into accessible HTML formats.
  • Ensure compliance with WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility standards.
  • Apply best practices for semantic HTML markup, ARIA attributes, and responsive design.
  • Perform accessibility testing using state-approved tools and manual validation.
  • Implement updates using the State of Ohio Web Content Management System.
  • Maintain consistency with state templates, navigation structures, and branding guidelines.
  • Collaborate with AGE staff to validate accuracy of updated content.
  • Provide documentation of accessibility improvements and recommendations for long-term compliance.

Required Skills

  • Hands-on experience in web design, web development, and digital accessibility.
  • Strong proficiency in HTML programming.
  • Expertise in WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility standards.
  • Experience creating accessible web content and accessible PDFs.
  • Experience working with Adobe Acrobat Pro for PDF remediation.
  • Understanding of user experience (UX) design principles.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with HCL Web Content Manager (HCL/WCM) or similar CMS platforms.
  • Experience working on government accessibility compliance projects.
