UX Design Director

Location: Roseland, New Jersey (Onsite)

Role Overview

We are looking for a UX Design Director for a player-coach role. The position requires leading and developing a small design team, establishing new design governance processes, and working as a hands-on individual contributor across various product domains. You will work with senior stakeholders, engineering partners, and your team to maintain quality and drive design initiatives within a small team inside a large company.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and evolve a review and gating process for new platform components and capabilities.
• Collaborate daily with product, engineering, and UX research teams, contributing to interaction design, flows, prototypes, and visuals.
• Manage and develop a small team of designers by running critiques, enhancing collaboration, and elevating design quality.
• Represent the design perspective in product planning, engineering discussions, and leadership reviews.
• Translate design rationale into communications for diverse technical and non-technical audiences.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of hands-on UX design experience.
• Experience leading and developing other designers.
• A portfolio that includes recent individual contributor work.
• Experience building or influencing a design governance or review process.
• Strong systems thinking to understand how component decisions affect the broader product.
• Credibility in technical conversations with product managers, engineers, and architects.
• Experience integrating GenAI / LLM tooling into professional workflows.
• Experience designing for AI-powered or agentic products.
• Ability to thrive in lean, ambiguous environments and build processes from scratch.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in regulated domains such as payroll, tax, HR, fintech, or healthcare.
• Experience working with and delivering experiences for chat-based products, especially those powered by GenAI.
