Location: Baltimore, MD (On-Site, with hybrid model)

Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced Data Lead Architect with deep expertise in Healthcare Data Architecture, Enterprise Data Warehousing (EDW), Cloud Data Lakes, and Modern Data Engineering. The ideal candidate will lead the design and implementation of scalable healthcare data platforms using AWS cloud technologies, Medallion Architecture, Dimensional Data Modeling, and healthcare interoperability standards including EDI X12, HL7, and FHIR.

The selected candidate will play a key leadership role in modernizing legacy healthcare systems into cloud-native data ecosystems while ensuring HIPAA/CMS compliance, governance, scalability, and enterprise interoperability.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and mentor a team of Data Engineers and ETL developers.
Architect and implement enterprise-scale Data Lakehouse solutions using Medallion Architecture:

Bronze Layer (Raw Data)
Silver Layer (Cleansed/Validated Data)
Gold Layer (Business Aggregates)

Design and develop cloud-based Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) solutions on AWS.
Build scalable OLAP solutions using Apache Iceberg or Delta Lake.
Design and optimize Star Schema and Snowflake Schema dimensional data models.
Develop high-performance ETL/ELT pipelines using:

AWS Glue
Apache Spark / PySpark
Databricks
Apache Airflow

Work extensively with AWS services:

S3
Redshift
Athena
EMR
Glue
HealthLake
Lake Formation

Integrate and process healthcare transaction data:

EDI X12 (837, 835, 278)
HL7
FHIR APIs/resources

Implement data governance, lineage, access controls, encryption, and auditing for HIPAA/CMS compliance.
Lead legacy-to-modern data migration and interoperability initiatives.
Collaborate with business, analytics, and engineering teams to define enterprise data strategy.
Drive CI/CD automation and Infrastructure-as-Code practices in data engineering workflows.

Required Qualifications

Education

Bachelor s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field.
Master s Degree preferred.

Experience

10+ years of overall IT architecture/design experience.
7+ years in:

Data Engineering
ETL Development
Cloud Data Architecture

2+ years leading technical/data engineering teams.
5+ years managing large-scale enterprise implementations.
Strong healthcare domain experience is mandatory.
