SAP P2P Technical Lead/Architect
Location: Atlanta, GA
Duration: 12+ months
 
Client is seeking an experienced SAP P2P (Procure-to-Pay) – MM Lead to drive the design, implementation, and optimization of SAP procurement and purchasing processes across enterprise operations. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in SAP Materials Management (MM), end-to-end Procure-to-Pay processes, procurement transformation, and integration with SAP Finance and other supply chain modules.
The candidate will lead functional teams, collaborate with business stakeholders, define solution architecture and functional designs, and ensure effective delivery of SAP procurement solutions aligned with business requirements and organizational objectives.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead end-to-end SAP Procure-to-Pay (P2P) solution design, implementation, configuration, and support.
  • Own SAP MM functional solutions covering purchasing, procurement, inventory management, goods receipt, invoice verification, and material valuation.
  • Drive procurement process design across purchase requisitions, purchase orders, source determination, goods receipts, invoice processing, and payment integration.
  • Lead business requirement workshops, fit-gap analysis, fit-to-standard assessments, and solution design discussions.
  • Configure and optimize SAP MM functionality, including purchasing document types, release strategies or flexible workflows, pricing procedures, account determination, and inventory management.
  • Design and implement procurement approval workflows, purchasing controls, and exception-handling processes.
  • Ensure seamless integration between SAP MM and SAP FI/CO, SAP SD, SAP PP, SAP QM, SAP WM/EWM, and other relevant enterprise systems.
  • Support integration with SAP Ariba and third-party procurement, supplier management, and invoice automation platforms, where applicable.
  • Lead functional specifications for enhancements, reports, interfaces, conversions, and forms (RICEF), coordinating with ABAP and integration teams.
  • Drive supplier and material master data governance, procurement data migration, and data quality validation.
  • Lead functional testing, integration testing, user acceptance testing (UAT), defect resolution, cutover planning, and post-go-live support.
  • Establish functional design standards, solution documentation, and best practices across procurement processes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve procurement efficiency, reduce manual processing, strengthen compliance, and optimize purchasing operations.
  • Manage functional team activities, mentor consultants, coordinate with technical teams, and provide delivery updates to stakeholders.
  • Ensure adherence to internal procurement policies, audit requirements, segregation of duties, and financial controls.
Required Technical Skills
  • Strong hands-on experience in SAP MM and end-to-end Procure-to-Pay processes.
  • Expertise in SAP ECC and SAP S/4HANA Materials Management.
  • Strong knowledge of purchasing, inventory management, goods movements, invoice verification, and material valuation.
  • Experience with purchase requisitions, purchase orders, contracts, scheduling agreements, source lists, and purchasing info records.
  • Knowledge of procurement pricing, account assignment categories, automatic account determination, and GR/IR reconciliation.
  • Experience with release strategies in SAP ECC and flexible workflow concepts in SAP S/4HANA.
  • Strong understanding of SAP MM–FI integration, including vendor invoice postings, tax handling, inventory valuation, and financial postings.
  • Experience with material master, supplier master/Business Partner, and procurement data migration.
  • Knowledge of SAP Fiori procurement applications and SAP S/4HANA procurement capabilities.
  • Experience with functional specifications, testing documentation, defect management, and deployment activities.
Leadership and Functional Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of SAP MM/P2P functional consultants and coordinate with cross-functional SAP teams.
  • Serve as the primary functional contact for procurement business stakeholders.
  • Translate business requirements into scalable, maintainable SAP solutions.
  • Review functional designs, configuration decisions, and proposed enhancements.
  • Manage dependencies, risks, issues, and delivery milestones across workstreams.
  • Communicate effectively with business users, solution architects, project managers, and senior leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in large-scale SAP S/4HANA implementation or procurement transformation programs.
  • Experience with SAP Ariba Buying, Invoicing, Sourcing, or Business Network.
  • Exposure to SAP Central Procurement and centralized procurement operating models.
