SAP WM Technical Lead / Architect
Location: Atlanta, GA

Client is seeking an experienced SAP WM Technical Lead / Architect to lead the technical design, development, integration, and delivery of SAP Warehouse Management solutions across complex enterprise environments.
The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in SAP Warehouse Management (WM), SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM), and SAP technical architecture. Candidates with extensive SAP EWM experience must also possess a solid understanding of classic SAP WM processes, configurations, and integration points.
The role requires a technical leader who can translate warehouse business requirements into scalable SAP solutions, guide development and integration teams, oversee technical design and implementation, and ensure seamless integration with SAP MM, SD, PP, and other relevant modules.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • SAP WM / EWM Solution Architecture
  • Lead the technical architecture, design, and implementation of SAP WM and SAP EWM solutions.
  • Evaluate warehouse business requirements and recommend appropriate SAP WM/EWM solution designs.
  • Define solution architecture, technical standards, integration patterns, and development guidelines.
  • Ensure a clear understanding of classic SAP WM functionality, including storage types, storage sections, storage bins, quant management, transfer requirements, transfer orders, and warehouse movements.
  • Assess the differences between classic SAP WM and SAP EWM and recommend suitable solutions based on business and system requirements.
  • Support warehouse transformation initiatives involving SAP ECC, SAP S/4HANA, and decentralized or embedded EWM environments.
  • Technical Leadership and Development
  • Lead technical design reviews and oversee the delivery of custom developments, enhancements, interfaces, reports, forms, and conversions (RICEF).
  • Provide technical guidance to ABAP developers and integration teams.
  • Review technical specifications, development objects, coding standards, performance, and solution quality.
  • Support SAP ABAP development related to warehouse processes, including enhancements, user exits, BAdIs, function modules, and APIs.
  • Oversee interface design and troubleshooting using IDocs, RFCs, BAPIs, OData services, and other relevant integration technologies.
  • Analyze complex warehouse process issues and drive root-cause analysis and resolution.
  • Ensure technical solutions are scalable, maintainable, secure, and aligned with SAP best practices.
  • SAP WM / EWM Functional and Integration Knowledge
  • Understand end-to-end warehouse processes, including inbound deliveries, goods receipt, putaway, internal movements, replenishment, picking, packing, staging, and goods issue.
  • Ensure integration between WM/EWM and SAP MM, SD, PP, Quality Management (QM), and Transportation Management (TM), where applicable.
  • Understand integration between inventory management and warehouse execution, including stock consistency and goods movement postings.
  • Support handling unit management, batch management, serial numbers, physical inventory, and warehouse task execution.
  • Work with functional teams to translate warehouse process requirements into technical designs and implementation plans.
  • Support integration testing, user acceptance testing, cutover, deployment, and production stabilization.
Required Technical Skills
  • 12–15+ years of overall SAP experience, with substantial experience in SAP WM/EWM technical delivery and architecture.
  • Strong technical knowledge of SAP warehouse solutions, including classic SAP WM and SAP EWM.
  • Candidates with SAP EWM as their primary skill must have a good understanding of classic SAP WM concepts, processes, configuration, and integration.
  • Experience in SAP ECC and/or SAP S/4HANA warehouse implementations.
  • Strong knowledge of SAP ABAP technical architecture and custom development, including enhancements, BAdIs, user exits, and debugging.
  • Experience with SAP integration technologies, including IDocs, RFCs, BAPIs, APIs, and OData services.
  • Ability to review functional and technical specifications and guide development teams.
  • Experience in warehouse process troubleshooting, integration testing, performance optimization, and defect resolution.
  • Strong understanding of integration between WM/EWM and SAP MM, SD, PP, and QM.
  • Experience in technical design documentation, code reviews, deployment planning, and production support.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience leading SAP WM/EWM implementation, migration, upgrade, or warehouse transformation programs.
  • Experience with embedded or decentralized SAP EWM in SAP S/4HANA environments.
  • Knowledge of RF framework, warehouse monitoring, warehouse orders and tasks, storage control, and warehouse process types in EWM.
  • Experience with SAP Fiori, SAP BTP, and modern SAP integration architectures.
  • Exposure to manufacturing, industrial, energy, utilities, or complex distribution environments.
  • SAP EWM or SAP S/4HANA certification is an advantage.
