Summary

Composite Wood Panel Process Engineer

The Composite Wood Panel Process Engineer will function as a technical resource for the three interior door facing production lines. The Composite Wood Panel Process Engineer will collaborate with operations, research & development, and quality departments to optimize the manufacturing of interior door facings. This position will report directly to the Plant Quality Manager and will support the Interior Operations Leader and their team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prioritize safety in daily activities and process changes
  • Champion quality improvement initiatives
  • Monitor and optimize critical to customer physical and aesthetic properties
  • Own the production line trial process and work in conjunction with R&D teams
  • Monitor process KPIs and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Drive continuous improvement efforts to increase efficiency and throughput
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for quality defects
  • Champion lean manufacturing initiatives and cost reduction efforts

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in mechanical or chemical engineering, wood science, or a related field of study
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a wood product manufacturing process, 3 to 5 years preferred
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
  • Effective communication and leadership skills
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles

Experience Requirements:
  • Wood products manufacturing experience from one or more of the following industries or related fields:
    • MDF, HDF, or Hardboard Manufacturing
    • Particleboard Manufacturing
    • OSB (Oriented Strand Board) Manufacturing
    • Plywood Manufacturing
    • Engineered Wood Products Manufacturing
    • Forest Products Manufacturing
    • Building Materials Manufacturing
  • Compression molding experience
  • Hydraulic press experience
  • Production line trial experience: planning and execution

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Proficient in data analysis through use of Excel and Minitab or similar tools
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies
  • Proficient in root cause analysis and corrective action processes
  • Experience utilizing Statistical Process Control (SPC) methodologies
  • Familiarity with Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
  • Knowledge of Design of Experiments (DOE) and process optimization techniques
  • Ability to lead cross-functional continuous improvement initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to drive measured improvement in key areas of operations
  • Strong technical knowledge and process capabilities
