Job Summary
The Tax Analyst will support the Asset Management tax team with a primary focus on Sales & Use Tax compliance, filings, and related operational activities. This role is responsible for preparing and processing multi-state transaction tax returns, handling tax payments, managing tax-related communications, and performing tax research.
This position has been created as a backfill due to team and responsibility changes and will support ongoing operations while the department evaluates and implements a Sales & Use Tax software solution. The role is execution-focused and requires strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Compliance & Filings
- Prepare and process Sales & Use Tax returns for multiple U.S. states and local jurisdictions on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
- Handle both electronic and paper tax filings
- Ensure all filed returns are properly documented and stored in designated folders
- Prepare and/or review indirect tax filings, including sales/use, business & occupation, gross receipts, and property tax
Payments & Vouchers
- Prepare and review tax payment vouchers
- Assemble vouchers and checks for mailing
- Initiate direct debit payments with state tax authorities
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of all tax payments
Tax Research & Compliance Support
- Conduct research on transaction tax issues using tools such as CCH
- Interpret and apply federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations
- Provide guidance based on research findings to ensure compliance
- Assist in preparation for and support during tax audits
Systems & Data Management
- Query and extract data from systems such as PeopleSoft and Reflex
- Perform voucher research and reconciliation activities
- Conduct branch and location-based tax research within systems
- Assist with reconciliation of transaction tax-related general ledger accounts
Mailbox & Administrative Support
- Manage Sales & Use Tax inbox and physical mail
- Scan, sort, and distribute incoming communications
- Log and track tax notices
- Process Sales & Use Tax certificate renewals
- Respond to inquiries from Financial Advisors regarding tax certificates
Additional Support
- Assist with Asset Management tax-related activities as needed
- Support process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy
- Maintain organized records and documentation for all tax activities
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field
- Equivalent accounting experience may be considered
Experience
- Minimum 3+ years of accounting experience, including tax experience
- Hands-on experience with Sales & Use Tax filings and compliance
- Experience handling multiple tax forms, returns, and payment vouchers
- Experience with general ledger queries and reporting
Technical Skills
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUPs and formulas
- Experience with PeopleSoft and tax research tools such as CCH preferred
Certifications (Preferred)
- CPA is preferred but not required

Work Environment & Logistics
- Work Model: Hybrid (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday in office)
- Preference for local candidates; remote candidates may be considered if needed
- Work Hours: Flexible, typically 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM or 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM CST
- Equipment: Company-provided
Team Structure
- Team consists of five members with accounting backgrounds (CPA and non-CPA)
- Mix of remote and hybrid employees
- Primary training provided by Katie Reznikov, with additional support from team members
