Responsibilities:
Responsible for all aspects of transaction tax compliance and research.
Prepare transaction tax (sales/use, business & occupation, gross receipts, and property tax) returns for monthly, quarterly and annual filings.
Research transaction tax issues. Interpret and comply with state, local and international statutes, regulations, and legislation.
Prepare for, and assisting with, transaction tax audits.
Prepare and/or review indirect tax filings.
Provide guidance based on research of transaction tax laws and regulations.
Assist with the reconciliation of transaction tax general ledger accounts.
Develop and implement process improvements.
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where attention to detail, analytical skills and strong communication skills are essential.
Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree in Accounting or other four year degree with equivalent accounting experience.
Strong computer technical skills - MS Excel.

Reason for the Request: This Request is backfilling Req #36554997-Tax Analyst (Sales & Use Tax Analyst). The reason for the position is due to team and responsibility changes that created the need for someone to assist with Sales and Use Tax return filings, administer the Sales & Use Tax inbox, and conduct ad hoc tax research to fill the gap as the department research implementing a Sales and Use Tax software engine. There have been no changes to the following information except for the supplier call information.

What are the hours for this position? Is there any flexibility, e.g., time zones? There is some flexibility, e.g., 8:00 5:00 or 9:00 6:00 CST.
How does the team/department support Edward Jones? They are responsible for all Edward Jones Asset Management, including Sales & Use Tax.
Who comprises the team? There are five people on the team. Some team members are fully remote, while others work a hybrid schedule. Everyone on the team has an accounting background. There are CPAs and non-CPAs, tax and non-tax accountants. Katie Reznikov will be the main person to train this individual, though others on the team are familiar with some Sales & Use Tax processes and can help if needed.
What is the timeline? They would like to begin interviewing next week and have an offer out by April 24th if not sooner.
What will the interview process be for this position? One interview with Katie Reznikov (Analyst Sr., Asset Management) and a follow-up with Sarah Hartig (Director, FIN), if needed. Although Sarah Hartig is the hiring leader of record, Katie Reznikov will be supervising this individual.
What is the reason for the position? The department is working to identify and implement Sales & Use Tax software. Recent changes in work streams have created a need for someone to assist with Sales and Use Tax return filings and associated responsibilities to fill a gap until such time as the software program is operational.
What are the responsibilities of the position?
Processing
- Processes all online and paper filings for US states and localities
- Ensure final return copies are saved in the appropriate Sales & Use Tax folders
Payments
- Prepare/review payment vouchers
- Assemble vouchers/checks for mailing
- Initiate direct debits with state taxing authorities
Misc
- Query information from PeopleSoft
- Establish state payment logins and/or registrations (if applicable)
- Tax research in CCH
- Voucher research in PeopleSoft and Reflex
- Branch and Location research in PeopleSoft
- Assist with Asset Management duties as needed
Mail/Email inbox
- Scans and sorts all mail/redirects all emails
- Logs notices
- Processes Sales & Use Tax certificate renewals
- Responds to FA inquiries related to Sales & Use Tax certificates
What is the hiring leader looking for in a candidate?
- Accounting degree and 3+ years of accounting experience, which includes tax experience
- CPA is preferred but not required
- Experience working with a lot of different tax forms and vouchers
- General ledger queries/reporting
