Java Technical Lead - Remote with Required Travel
We have an immediate contract opportunity for a Java Technical Lead to design, develop, and deliver enterprise software supporting labor management applications. This role combines hands-on coding with technical leadership across configuration-driven solutions, business rules processing, shared libraries, reusable frameworks, microservices, and event-driven integrations. Responsibilities include developing Kafka producers and consumers, designing data models and complex SQL, improving application performance, supporting AWS deployments, and strengthening testing, security, observability, and production reliability.
Candidates should bring at least 10 years of progressive software engineering experience, including eight years of hands-on Java development, five years building enterprise applications with Java, Spring Boot, and REST services, and three years in a hands-on technical leadership role. Strong experience with Spring configuration and extensibility, business rules engines, reusable components, distributed-system resilience, database integration, and AWS is required. The lead will guide implementation decisions, review code, mentor engineers, and troubleshoot complex issues while remaining actively involved in development. Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift, monitoring platforms, and Angular experience are preferred. A technical bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience is required.
This is a currently remote contract opportunity with mandatory travel for PI Planning and additional project meetings in Washington, DC, Wilmington, or Philadelphia.
