Software Engineer, DevOps

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client that is seeking a Software Engineer, DevOps in Greenwood Village, CO.

Summary:
We are seeking a software-first DevOps Engineer with a strong engineering foundation. This role is not focused on traditional infrastructure administration or operational -click-ops-. Instead, we are looking for someone who is comfortable writing production-quality code, working deeply in Linux environments, and building scalable, automated systems through software. The ideal candidate has a background in software engineering (backend, platform, or systems) and brings an engineering mindset to DevOps work.

Responsibilities:
* Design, build, and maintain automated systems and tooling using code-first approaches
* Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines that improve developer velocity and system reliability
* Write clean, maintainable Python code for automation, tooling, and backend-style systems
* Work extensively in Linux environments, including Bash/shell scripting and system-level development
* Build, deploy, and support containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes
* Manage and evolve cloud infrastructure, primarily in AWS
* Define and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform
* Partner closely with software engineers, data engineers, and platform teams to support evolving systems and workflows
* Contribute to improving operational maturity, reliability, and developer experience

REQUIREMENTS:
* Advanced education is a plus; PhD preferred
* Strong Python development experience, especially for automation, tooling, or backend systems
* Solid Linux development experience, including Bash/shell scripting and system-level understanding
* Proven experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar) - this is a baseline expectation
* Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS (other cloud providers acceptable)
* Experience building and supporting containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes; Deeper Kubernetes expertise is expected for senior-level candidates
* Strong knowledge of Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform
* Strong research skills, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to rapidly learn new technologies and domains are highly valued
* Demonstrated ability to solve problems through code, not just configure or operate existing tools

Nice-to-Have:
* Exposure to or interest in Databricks (depth not required; curiosity and adaptability are key)
* Experience with Airflow, particularly in production or platform contexts
* Familiarity with data-, analytics-, or ML-heavy environments where DevOps intersects with data platforms

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
