Voice Engineer (ON-SITE)   

Location: Langley, WA

 Whidbey Telecom is seeking a Voice Engineer to support reliable, secure, and scalable voice communications services for customers and internal operations. This role administers and supports Metaswitch voice platforms, SIP services, carrier interconnections, and business voice offerings while troubleshooting complex voice and network issues. This position is on-site in our Langley, WA office.

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE, BUT NOT NECESSARILY BE LIMITED TO:

·         Administer, maintain, and troubleshoot Metaswitch platforms including:

o   Call Feature Server (CFS)

o   Perimeta Session Border Controllers (SBCs)

o   Metaswitch HPBX services

o   UMG and media gateway platforms

·         Configure and maintain:

o   SIP trunks

o   SIP routing

o   Least Cost Routing (LCR)

o   Number portability and call routing databases

·         Support SS7, SIP, SIGTRAN, and related telecommunications protocols.

·         Perform switch translations, feature development, and service provisioning.

·         Manage voice platform upgrades, patches, and lifecycle planning.

·         Support E911, NG911, and emergency services connectivity.

·         Participate in STIR/SHAKEN, robocall mitigation, fraud prevention, and regulatory compliance initiatives.

·         Investigate and resolve complex call quality, routing, and service-affecting issues.

·         Collaborate with carriers, vendors, PSAPs, and regulatory agencies regarding service delivery and troubleshooting.

·         Monitor voice traffic patterns and capacity utilization to ensure service reliability.

·         Configure and troubleshoot routers, switches, firewalls, and network appliances.

·         Support IP networking technologies including: TCP/IP, VLANs, DHCP, DNS.

·         Analyze packet captures using tools such as Wireshark.

·         Maintain network security best practices and participate in vulnerability remediation efforts.

·         Create and maintain detailed network and voice infrastructure documentation.

·         Participate in on-call support and outage response activities.

·         Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  

·         Degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related field; related certifications such as CCNA or Metaswitch certifications; or equivalent experience.

·         Minimum 3 years of experience with VoIP, telecommunications, or carrier-grade voice systems.

·         Minimum 3 years of experience working for a telecommunications provider, ISP, CLEC, ILEC, or managed services provider.

·         Minimum 3 years of demonstrated experience with Metaswitch technologies.

·         Demonstrated knowledge of TDM technologies.

·         Demonstrated knowledge of: SIP, MGoogle Cloud Platform, RTP, SS7, SIGTRAN, VoIP architecture.

·         Working knowledge of telecommunications regulations and industry practices.

·         Minimum 3 years of experience troubleshooting voice, networking, and carrier interconnection issues.

·         Minimum 3 years of experience with routing and switching concepts.

·         Ability to analyze logs, traces, packet captures, and signaling flows.

·         Strong written and verbal communication skills.

·         Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

·         Team player with strong customer service skills.

·         Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing environments and priorities.

·         Must be eligible to work in the USA.

·         Valid WA State driver’s license and insurable driving record.

·         Able to travel across the Canada–U.S. border as needed

·         Pre-employment and on-going drug screens required.

Salary range : $76,000 - $132,000 per year

          The starting salary for exempt employees will meet or exceed applicable Washington State salary threshold requirements. Placement within the range is based on qualifications, experience, and business needs. 

          Salary ranges are based on available market data for the business sector and   geographic location.
