Position Overview
We are seeking an accomplished and driven Mainframe Python Engineer to join our team and play a pivotal role in developing, maintaining, and optimizing our internal financial allocation model. This position requires a unique blend of senior-level Python programming skills and deep mainframe experience. As a Mainframe Python Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and implementing scalable data-driven solutions that enhance financial processes and support critical business decisions within our organization.
Key Responsibilities
Design, Develop, and Maintain Python Solutions: Lead the engineering efforts to create robust Python programs and scripts that drive the financial allocation platform operated on mainframe environments.
Mainframe Integration: Utilize your hands-on experience with mainframe systems to integrate Python applications with DB2 databases and JCL (Job Control Language) automation workflows.
Financial Data Processing: Architect and maintain data-processing pipelines using Python to efficiently handle, cleanse, and transform complex financial datasets.
Optimization and Performance Enhancement: Analyze performance bottlenecks and optimize Python code execution in the context of mainframe constraints, ensuring reliability and scalability for business-critical operations.
Database Management: Work directly with Mainframe DB2 to design, query, and update financial data models, supporting accurate and timely allocation processes.
JCL Job Management: Develop, troubleshoot, and maintain JCL scripts to orchestrate job schedules, manage workflow dependencies, and ensure smooth operational execution.
Collaboration and Documentation: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, infrastructure, and technology groups, to gather requirements, offer technical expertise, and document solutions for knowledge sharing and compliance.
Testing and Quality Assurance: Implement rigorous unit, integration, and regression tests for Python scripts and mainframe jobs to ensure high-quality deliverables and minimize operational risk.
Support and Troubleshooting: Provide expert-level support for production issues related to Python code, DB2 queries, and JCL workflows to guarantee uninterrupted access to financial allocation services.
Required Qualifications
Senior-Level Python Experience: Demonstrated expertise in Python, with proven experience architecting, developing, and deploying large-scale solutions; familiarity with advanced libraries and frameworks for data processing is highly preferred.
Mainframe Python Experience: Hands-on experience running and optimizing Python scripts in z/OS is a must; understanding of the unique challenges posed by mainframe architecture when executing Python code.
Data-Processing with Python: Experience designing and building data-processing flows in Python, including data ingestion, cleaning, aggregation, and transformation.
Mainframe DB2 Experience: Strong proficiency working with DB2 databases on the mainframe; write efficient SQL queries, and troubleshoot performance issues.
Mainframe JCL Experience: Solid background in writing, debugging, and streamlining Job Control Language scripts to manage job scheduling and workflow automation on mainframe systems.
Financial Systems Knowledge: Prior experience working on financial models, allocation algorithms, or similar systems is a plus, though not required; ability to quickly learn and apply financial domain concepts in a technical context.
Preferred Skills
Advanced Data Engineering: Familiarity with Python data engineering libraries such as Pandas and NumPy, as well as experience integrating Python with legacy systems.
Mainframe Automation: Experience using mainframe automation tools and scheduling software for orchestrating batch processes and data pipelines.
Agile Methodology: Ability to contribute within Agile environments, participating in sprints, stand-ups, and collaborative planning sessions.
Version Control: Experience using Git or similar version control systems for managing codebase, branching, and release cycles.
DevOps: Experience using Jenkins & JFrog or similar CI/CD tools to build and deploy software releases. (A Plus)
Documentation and Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation, requirement gathering, and team collaboration.
Development Environment: Experience using VSCode and Zowe Explorer for mainframe software development. (A Plus)

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent professional experience).
5+ years of professional experience in Python development, with at least 2 years running Python on z/OS.
Relevant experience with mainframe DB2 and JCL scripting; certifications in mainframe or Python technologies are a plus.
